Hello. I am a freethinking, non-violent contemporary social democrat with a few anti-authoritarian/anarchist tendencies. I am slightly nihilistic, but I am not a religion basher. The only social democratic plank that I am unsure of is multiculturalism. As it says in my signature, my political compass is {-4.88, -5.32}. My personality type is INTJ, which means that I question all forms of authority, and I am a 'Rational.' Anyone else who shares similar views or personality? I am participating actively in 2 other political forums, and I signed up for this one to get in some more discussion. I'm looking forward to participating here.
Question: If you're an economic leftist, how do reconcile this with your anti-authoritarian nature? To be more specific, how can you claim to be anti-authoritarian when you support the forced redistribution of private property?
P.S. - I love Virginia. My mother's side of the family is from there. My grandmother lives in Fancy Gap, which is in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The view from her front yard is incredible. You can see North Carolina for miles and miles.
The main thing that I vouch for as a leftist is a strong public sector and welfare nets to catch those who are in need. By anti-authoritarian, I mean that any and all authority should be questioned. If by private property you mean money, then I do support higher taxes on the rich in order to afford programs for those who are in need. Ideally, I would not want a very top-down government to enforce this, but I see it as necessary, as long as a democratic system is kept in place.
Thanks. ------------------------------------- Also, let me clarify this: By anti-authoritarian/anarchist tendencies, I do not mean that I am anti-authoritarian. I mean that all authority should be questioned and evaluated, instead of blindly followed. I am highly opposed to dogma of any kind, thus my avatar.
Hi Virginia, welcome to the board... Elementary School Teacher Tells Kids There's No Santa December 3, 2011 - Even the Grinch wouldn’t be this mean.
Welcome to the forum. I could say "Merry Christmas" to you then? Everything is so p.c. these days, we never know who we might offend. Ask if you need any help. Jiyuu-Freedom
Gasp!! How dare you? Just kidding. Merry Christmas to you too. Actually, many people argue that Christmas was originally a secular holiday, so I celebrate it anyway. Without the prayers, though. Despite my seemingly liberal orientation, I am generally opposed to political correctness.
