Is it just me or are our war films becoming more blatant in brown-nosing the American war agenda than ever? It makes me wonder if the studios benefit in a more substantial manner than simply swelling with national pride... Look at Battleship and Red Tails especially, but also consider how glowingly the third Batman installment portrayed the police force. We still see some films that attempt to capture the moral ambiguity of war and military service, but it seems that more and more they are becoming simply recruiting posters for the defense complex. I find it hard to believe that all these films, many of which inevitably flop, are so heavily invested in solely because "patriotism sells".
The studio needs the Pentagon to provide the military hardware for the film so that's one reason for the propaganda. I think the Call of Duty game series is worse. Especially Black Ops which is 90% bull(*)(*)(*)(*) presented as history. No reason for it that I know of.
What are you talking about? Virtually all the films that have come out since Platoon are anti-war/anti-military diatribes except for Act of Valor.
