Looks like the illegals and the Border patrol are indeed getting the word to Turn the Back! I have already tried telling people about the Sherrif, now the Border Patrol is ready to get down and dirty and start legal action agaist this administation. So, to the drones who wanted a different source other than Newsmax and whined and complained and cried before...read it and weep.

The Border Patrols practice of detecting but not apprehending illegal immigrants -- known as Turn Back South -- is in effect far north of the U.S.-Mexico border, Arizona Sheriff Larry Dever claimed in congressional testimony Tuesday morning.

Cartels protecting their drug loads...

Are Mexican drug cartels escalating attacks against US border officials?
July 1, 2011 - Recent reports suggest that assaults on US officials on the Mexico border may have tripled since 2004, but a look at these 'attacks' shows that the danger they pose may be exaggerated.

According to an article in Mexicos El Universal, the Border Patrol and other US law enforcement agencies that work along the border have seen an increase in the number of attacks by Mexican drug cartels in recent months. This claim is bolstered by a 2010 Congressional Research Service report on border violence, which indicates that such attacks have increased from 773 recorded incidents in 2005 to 1,073 in 2009. The Mexican paper cites Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), who provides even more dramatic statistics. Mr. McCraw says there were only 356 attacks in 2004, meaning that their frequency may have tripled in a five year period.

According to McCraw, this is partly due to the fact that cartels are under increased pressure to limit the amount of their product that is seized by authorities. At one time, members of drug cartels threw out their drug shipments or abandoned their vehicles when confronted by US agents, according to McCraw. But today, drug cartels have less tolerance for failure. The DPS official claimed that shipments of drugs and undocumented migrants are now vigorously protected, with gangs using high-speed automobiles and being prepared for direct confrontations with the authorities.

As evidence, McCraw referred El Universal to an incident that occurred on June 9, in which Border Patrol officers in Texas came upon several men unloading more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana on the Mexican side of the border who began to throw rocks and sticks at the agents. The officials said that, after they heard at least six gunshots, they opened fire on the men. As the Houston Chronicle noted, the American agents allegedly shot around 300 rounds in the incident.

Since the incident, US officials have identified the men as members of the Gulf Cartel. If true, this would fit with a Drug Enforcement Administration bulletin obtained by Homeland Security Today in early June, which claimed that the Gulf Cartel has directed [that] no more drug loads in the US will be lost (to law enforcement).

Mexican drug cartels already control parts of our border...

Border Patrol Official: Drug Cartels 'Have Taken Control' of 'Several Areas Along Our Border'
Thursday, July 21, 2011 Washington (CNSNews.com) -- Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Deputy Commissioner David Aguilar told CNSNews.com that Mexican drug cartels control “several areas along our border with Mexico.”

In Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, CNSNews.com asked Aguilar, “Do you think Mexican drug cartels have taken control of the human trafficking that takes place from Mexico to the U.S.?” Aguilar said, “There are several areas along our border with Mexico where in fact we believe that the drug cartels not only have taken control, but control the areas by which the illegal crossings occur.” When CNSNews.com also asked if he thought Mexican drug cartels had made human trafficking from south of the border into the United States more violent, Aguilar said, “absolutely.”

“All the violence that occurs, against illegal aliens that occur, occur at the hands of smugglers,” said Aguilar. “The smugglers are working in coordination with the drug cartels and the drug trafficking organizations.” Aguilar spoke with CNSNews.com at a press conference in the nation’s capital held to raise awareness about human trafficking. Regarding Mexican drug cartel involvement in human trafficking from Mexico to the United States, Aguilar said the drug cartels, much like the Mafia, are involved in multiple criminal enterprises that go beyond trafficking narcotics. “Drug trafficking organizations being involved in [human] smuggling has been historical. It has been a legacy. It has happened consistently in my 30 some years of service,” Aguilar said. “This is something that we have seen evolve into what we see happening today: that the cartels are turning into more of a Mafia-like organization that are specializing not just in any one crime, not in the singular fashion.”

“Now they may have a focus of narcotics, but they will expand very Mafia-like into other criminal opportunities, one of them being the smuggling of people in the United States,” said Aguilar. “Therefore, being involved in what we are discussing today -- the exploitation of young men, young women, children for human trafficking, slavery, forced labor, and things of this nature -- they are looking to make that all-mighty dollar and that is what they focus their efforts on, any crime that will get them that profit,” he said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deputy Director Kumar Kibble, who spoke alongside Aguilar during the press conference, agreed. “I agree, unfortunately, with what Deputy Aguilar has stated, when you consider that [Mexican drug cartels] are diversifying, whether it’s kidnapping, whether it’s intellectual property theft, narcotics, human smuggling,” Kibble told CNSNews.com. “They, of course, control the plazas [in Mexico], the approaches that facilitate smuggling into the country -- the cartels, of course, control the territory and the approach and tax other criminal ventures that may be operating in their area of responsibility. So there is certainly that kid of involvement as well.”

21 July`11 — Arizona launched a fundraising website Wednesday to build fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, a newly authorized project that supporters said is needed to close gaps exploited by smugglers and illegal immigrants.

"Arizona once again has to do the job the federal government isn't," said state Sen. Steve Smith, a first-term Republican who sponsored the legislation authorizing the fence project. Initial online donations ranged from the minimum of $5 to "dozens in the $250 to $500 range," Philipsen said. Contributions also can be mailed. Smith said during a Tuesday interview that his initial goal is to raise $50 million. "It's not my end goal," he said. "If we can raise $50 million, we're off to a fabulous start." Smith said he was optimistic about the fundraising potential because people have donated nearly $3.8 million to a fund to defend the state's 2010 immigration enforcement law known as SB1010.

That effort raised money for "an intangible service — you're paying for a lawyer," Smith said. "This, you can taste and smell what you're getting — you're paying for a secure border." What the money will actually buy has yet to be determined. A border security advisory committee consisting of legislators, state agency directors and county sheriffs will make recommendations to the Legislature on how and where to spend the money.

Fencing currently covers about 650 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, or about one-third of the 2,000-mile boundary. It ranges in quality from simple barbed wire or vehicle barriers to carefully engineered, 18- to 30-foot high fences near cities. Smugglers often circumvent the barriers by cutting or driving through them, climbing over them, or digging often-elaborate tunnels under them. Wednesday's website launch was keyed to the date most new laws passed during the state Legislature's 2011 regular session go into effect. While Arizona lawmakers rejected several immigration enforcement measures this year that were opposed by business groups, the border fence measure didn't get as much attention.

Obama's Border Chief: Bad Economy is Good for Border Security
September 13, 2011 - CBP chief says a secure Southwest Border is being realized

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin said on Friday that the bad economy has been good for border security. We have an economy that is stronger in Mexico and weaker in the United States and so we dont see as many people trying to cross, he said. Bersin also said that over the next year it will become apparent to the American people that a secure southwest border is possible.

Our border with Mexico has been a project of a 20-year effort beginning in the early 1990s, and I think what will come apparent over the next year is that the last chapter in that first phase is about to end in Arizona, Bersin told an audience at the Woodrow Wilson Center on Friday. The event, which featured Bersin and two of his predecessors, focused on post-911 border security in the United States. All three men asserted that the southwest border is more secure now than it has been in 30 years.

The notion that we can secure the border not seal it, not shut it down, but secure it is something that is underway as a result of the magnificent effort of 10 percent of CBP, Bersin said. Six thousand of our people are in Arizona serving at the ports of entry, in the air, and on the ground between the ports of entry, and the progress is remarkable more known to those who watch it closely but soon to be known by the American people.

We will then enter a new phase for CBP on the land borders, Bersin continued, one that will actually involve the same tools of information collection, intelligence gathering, analysis and risk management applied to both the land borders as well as the securing of goods and people coming towards us. Asked by CNSNews.com to elaborate on his comment about a secure border being underway, Bersin noted the lower number of apprehensions in Arizona this year.
