How can the Fed Reserve Bank actually change interest rates?

No science that involves humans can ever be like physics. Humans can't be understood through algorithms and equations alone, to pretend that we're all just rational maximizers is a really bad starting point.

What is the solution? That is, what is epsilon_t?

A person with an advanced degree in economics should answer this with no problem, as it is at the undergrad level.

 

And the fact that someone with a degree in economics doesn't see how this conflict of interest misaligned interests, is very telling.

When the professor of economics at Princeton is being paid to write papers endorsing economic theory, we have a problem. It is putting subject matter experts with undeniable credentials, in a position where their opinion is for sale.
