How to address the US murder rate...?

I would just like to pull the cord or press the button. Eliminating wasted in the world is a good thing. The expense of keeping them for the rest of their lives is not worth it. We could use that money elsewhere.

I really don't care that it doesn't work. Locks don't keep burglars out, but I bet you have your doors locked while you sleep. Hackers can get through your security, but you still purchase and install it. Guess what? It works to keep those on the cusp from going over the line. That's how it helps.

 

Thank you for the links. I'm quite familiar with most of these numbers, not all though. The topic of said conversation was the annually gun death rate and I was told (by an American) that those were all suicides (5 minutes with google as well as as your links say something different), so I found that claim to be quite strange let alone simply incorrect.
As to your question: I won't mention names here, that could look a bit denunciating, but I live in Germany and I've been lectured on German health care, the education system, military & defence policies, domestic laws, the political landscape, general elections, the media, and esp the refugee situation on this forum by people from the US, who, unfortunately, knew only very little of what they were talking about. When pointing that out I was accused of being a propagandist or told to stop lecturing. I'm not making this up. Imagine the situation the other way around, I don't think you would be ok with that.

Culturally, the US and Europe are pretty far apart. Germans and Englanders have more in common than Americans and Englanders despite the language barriers/similarities.

I'm sure there are two sides to that conversation about Germany vis-à-vis the US.

All your first source says is that whites with better resources and advantages don't commit crimes at the same rate as poor blacks. THey then assert that is because of resources. They don't control for poverty and compare poor whites and poor blacks.

And I CANNOT believe I just wasted my time reading the "study" in your second source. Not only does it read like it was written by a high schooler, but it provides literally ZERO evidence that whites and blacks commit violent crime at the same or comparable rate when controlled for violence witnessed. The author makes 5 or 6 critical assumptions based on nothing more than his opinion.

Furthermore the ONE lone study he uses to cite his assertion that whites and blacks commit violence at the same rate given the same poverty levels is fundamentally flawed and has been called out as such since it was presented in 1990. The study looks at neighborhoods and determines violent crime levels based on neighborhood demographics. What it does NOT do is identify who within those neighborhoods is committing the violent crime. So for example in a neighborhood with 70% black and 30% whites any violent crime is attributed to a black person. In a neighborhood with 70% whites and 30% blacks any violent crime is assumed to be committed by a white person. Hopefully I don't need to explain to you why that's not legitimate.

 

Not a Great Trump Supporter But I do believe this is one issue Trump can Solve. A strong economy is key to decreasing Crime. Tougher punishments don't seem to work in every scenario if you have children growing up in communities of no prospects of Jobs unfortunately the life of crime is the only Job going. A higher percentage of blacks live in poorer communities I am no expert but there lies the issue .

NYC had more than 2,100 murders in 1991.

In 2017 we are set to be below 300 murders.

The USA should copy what we are doing.

 

Lol your murder rate spiked during the white flight era in NY. The murder rate fell dramatically at the institution of stop and frisk.
