How should we deal with ISIS?

    negotiate with them?

    cower to their demands?

    annihilate them?

i believe they are a new low, a new low form of evil that needs to be dealt with in a very determined, specifica way.

as they are a new low of evil, I believe we must offer them surrender or destruction.

they are clearly not rational, not logical people.

they are motivated by evil, ignorance, and 100% commitment to nonsense.

we can't deal rationally with such folks.

we should give them 1 week to lay down their arms and go home....or be bombed to pieces

I follow this topic heavily, and what they are doing to innocence men, women, and children is disgusting. I totally agree that they should be bombed to pieces at this point in time, no surrender offered, because they've already done enough damage.

My option~ get away from everywhere they are...watch carefully...hope they are not stupid enough to come over here, and if they do use the FULL force of United States military power to incinerate them beyond recognition.

    Nuclear options included.

Bill O'Reilly proposed the idea of a mercenary army, which I thought laughable at first but I could see the benefit. A group like Blackwater. Any western or US involvement is going to raise the flames and while it will be accepted by many, others will see it as a call to arms and join ISIS. With a mercenary type army, you take Western government out of the equation.

We all know this is going to be a very long, drawn out battle. But fighting the same fights and getting the same results is insane. When will the US and our western allies learn?

Edit - Also, I would support propping up certain groups like the Kurds with our money, weapons, and resources.

Also, the UN SHOULD have a much greater role in this... I thought the whole purpose of creating the UN was to avoid the kind of genocide and crimes against humanity that have occurred so many times throughout human history? Why are we allowing this group to commit the horrible crimes against humanity against these innocent men, women, and children? Our world's inaction over ISIS is concerning to me, I could think of very few other groups we would be more than justified on taking action against than ISIS...

They're no different than any other Islamic group; they're just exercising the different options available to them in the regions and situational conditions they're operating in. Hamas, Hexbollah, Wahhibists, PLO, PA, Muslim Botherhood, all the same, just some have more limited opportunities for murder and genocide. It's embedded in their violent ideology masquerading as a 'religion'. It's either isolate them, impose arms embargoes on every single Islamic nation, and keep them contained on their reservations, or completely crush their societies and culture, raze every mosque and 'holy site' and ban the Koran as Nazism was banned in Germany and Europe, and restructure them from the ground up, as Japan and Nazi Germany were after their defeats. Or opt for annihilation and sending them back to raiding each other over sheep and goats and water holes. Occupation would take a long time, and the West doesn't have the attention span for that, it would take at least two or three generations, nor do most of their 'countries' have the built in infrastructure and breadth the Japanese and Germans had to build on, so obviously much longer for Islamo-Land, even with imported education and technology. They're stone age tribes with western tech and money to play with.

Options number one and four are out of the question, and the other two won't change anything in the region long term; more such gangs will form, just as they have in the past. It's endemic to their 'culture' and ideology.

Good god, these self-answering poll threads are getting downright silly, and now it's fairly sane posters doing it. (well, as sane as we get here)

Look, you guys DO understand that ISIS is a bunch of people with an agenda, right? They're not a country, or a place. I'm always getting the idea that most conservatives think the War on Terror is a conflict we're having with some shadowy nation somewhere that is actually called Terr or suchlike and all we have to do is bomb all of Terr's factories so they can't produce more terrorists. Sorry, no, it's not like that.

Seriously, ISIS is a revolutionary movement within Iraq. They are a tiny minority and they are FAR from being the Iraqi people or even being representative of the majority. At present, the majority of the people there probably still view the outside world as possible rescuers from a group of crazies that are using the plethora of weaponry WE left there to oppress them

It should go without saying that we can't bomb and kill the people we went there to "save" in the first place, but hell, it's what we tried to do in Vietnam for 11 years and the conservatives still defend that, so why in hell am I even trying to talk to such people or even acting as if this is a serious thread.

Get over and at the highest level as China as the only other Superpower to join us in a combined effort with our allies, get an armed expeditionary force of sufficient size to do the job, deploy in force and kick ISIS into utter despair while covertly taking out by assassination anyone giving them practical and significant support, their spouses and adult children and associates. Go into a full scale war footing devastating both the soldiers and their leaders and those in the "industrial complex" supporting them. We have two seats on the Permanent Security Council with China just block any actions against us when they find out we are not playing nice.

Have the Chinese handle prisoners they can torture them and do things we won't.

If Obama formally asked for Chinese armed forces and covert assets, using the term superpower and making it a moral action then they are likely to help.
