I'm starting a software development business. The focus will be WordPress plug-ins at first. Instead of selling plug-ins for a one-time price, I'd like to lease them for a small quarterly fee, updates and support included. My question is how I can turn the software on or off, depending on whether I've been paid. Does anyone have ideas? I've thought of requiring an activation code which is changed each quarter. Several years worth would come pre-packaged inside each plug-in sold. After that, I could provide new downloads with new codes. Does that sound workable, or is there a better way?
