FBI has the computers. NSI has a copy of almost all emails of the US and foreign citizens. It is not a difficult job check IPs, dates when files were created on the computer with NSI information to decide if the discs contain true or false information.

And back to the subject of the OP one can only wonder why Hunter brought a computer with incriminating evidence against his father to a repair shop and then abandoned it there.
