As usual, I can never tell if your posts are sincere or just some elaborate trolling effort, but if this is a sincere post then you should be bloody ashamed of yourself for having such a pathetic and defeatist attitude. Stop making excuses for your bad behavior and take some god (*)(*)(*)(*) responsibility for yourself.

Ethereal - nice try, but you're talking to a brick wall here.... everyone of his posts are of this 'poor me, give me your money' mentality......

I suppose you have a point about life worth living and all of that and sorry I was a little testy yesterday. But I have been through a lot in the past 8 years with my divorce and relocation to Pennsylvania and all and things have been going from bad to worse.

I went from New York City to rural Pennsylvania when my wife kicked me out of the house in 2004 to let her boyfriend move in after 12 years of marriage. Here there are no jobs and it's depressing. The only action this town sees is at the local convenience store where everyone here loads up on instant win lottery tickets. Plus I had cancer a few years ago... I have a lot of stuff that's bringing me down.

Pennsylvania is about THE Most American of States in this Country.
From the basic of most base Blue Collar workers { Steel workers } to highfalutin
Philadelphia types. Many Eurpoeans immigrated there.Andy Warhola lived
around Pittsburg in a small Catholic Ethnic neighborhood.
Joe Namath { Broadway Joe } came from a small town { Beaver Falls }.
A lot of Beer drinkers { Deerhunter } and hunters. My Grandpa had a hunting cabin
up in those Appalachians. The state of Barbells { York } and Chocolate { Hershey }.
    And royal pain in the ass Liberal Loony Politicians { Ed Rendell & Chaka Fattah }

I have a friend who owns a five-star restaurant in town. He's from Argentina and a magician in the kitchen. He bought some property on the coast and was buying and storing exotic building supplies to build a beautiful beach house for himself and his wife. He found out that I was building a house so he called me up to tell me that he had materials that I might be interested in and he'd sell them to me what he paid for. He said that his plans for the house had changed, because his wife of ten years told him that her old high school flame was getting out of jail so she would be filing for divorce. I only met her once; she was OK to look at in a white trash sort of way but basically lazy and seemed to be a drag on his lifestyle.

Instead of feeling sorry for himself he simply got a new squeeze. His new wife is younger and far prettier than his old one; an exotic beauty from Brazil. She now manages the restaurant and seats the customers, and has added a real touch of class to the establishment as well as increased business and reduced expenses.

The lesson here, no need to get mad, get even. :D

I have a sister that lives in the dead center of that state for the last 25 years and it's depressed and depressing. The Susquehanna is beautiful though, with the big wide sections with all the green islands. If I lived there I'd be on it all the time. I'm glad it no longer catches fire.

The only mystery is why it took 12 years for your wife to kick you out and shack up with someone else...If I was a bussiness owner up there in the beautiful endless mountains of Pennsylvania, the last thing I'd want is to have a pathetic, weak, whining ninny like you representing my enterprise...Maybe you would enjoy getting involved in AA...There is probably a room full of like minded whiners meeting to discuss their harsh childhoods and women who have dumped them within a 10 mile radius of you right now...Good Luck

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time of it. As someone who's had very rough times myself in the past, I can only say to you that if you hold on... and hang in there... that things CAN and DO change / and improve. Sometimes we just need the courage to hang in there when things are really bad, and to hold on to something / anthing that's 'worthwhile' - even if it's just an idea, or even if it's just some tiny inspiration that we're able to muster from somewhere... to keep us going until things begin to change. Misfortune is a bastard... but it can be transcended.

    Hang in there, jmpet.

I had earned a million dollars in income from 14 to 34 when I was in the city... I did the math. That is an accomplishment. And having your own house and two kids with well paying jobs is also an accomplishment. Having all of that taken away from you is like pulling the rug under you. It hurts, and to add reality I am now somewhere where the only jobs out there pay minimum wage- I wouldn't even go that low with the people I used to hire when I was making the big bucks. So am I whining?

Not sure were you are in PA but lots of folks in the smaller towns and cities work for peanuts. My sister is barely scraping by- her husband was making large as a CEO but lost his mind from the pressure so now does laps around the dining room table and not much else. They own their condo but not much else now. I keep telling her to move but she always makes some excuse. I don't know how she keeps going but she's a strong woman.

If you still have your health, then be infinitely grateful. Do everything to stay healthy. If you ever lose your health, you'll know what real misery is...

I'm sorry to hear about the cancer. Health problems can be a terrible weight. If you're better, though, you should be very appreciative. Rededicate yourself to living a purposeful, healthy life and learn to stand on your own two feet again. It's not as hard as you think.

Indeed. Combine that with a sedentary lifestyle, high stress, and a history of cancer and you have a recipe for disaster.

Put down the booze and start exercising!!!

The great thing to remember is that you are far more likely to run someone over than save 'em, so forget that bit. You like drinking, drink you: I've argued often that everyone needs drugs under this system. The question is, why are you telling us about it? You want validation? You sound a bit wet and self-pitying for that. You want pity? Poor you - feel any better? If you are capable of making big money, why not go back and make it? If you are an alky, go get worse and decide whether you want to live. If you have doubts about killing yourself, ring the Samaritans, if you have them in America. But get more specific, do: this is just woolly.

no it is not whining brother, many americans are in that very position after the rich took our high paying jobs away immoraly, no one should have the choice to take a peasant job that is reserved for illegal immigrants

this is the time when we make them pay and redistribute wealth, get on the welfare rolls and make them support the booze habit maybe you'll find another girl whose in the same position, and both your welfare incomes could subsidize a better lifestyle.

but whatever happens, don't let them get off easy, stay alive drink in moderation and make them pay for it. demonize them, those evil business owners for forcing us down the bottle and not giving a man whose down and out better opportunities in life.

Back from England for one day to restock my wardrobe and what have you been writing in my absence? It's as well I stopped in to put you right.:whisper:

Ok, hands up how many here have never in the darkest hour, when the ship was going down, when the lights went out, when the **** hit the fan, when the doctor gave the test results, when the boss axed the job, when the kids took the crack, when the gardener went into hospital for that stomach op (ok, maybe the last one is particular to me and nobody else minds having the mow their own lawn and get the hedge trimmer out)...how many of us have never ever ever thought about this* topic?

You're far from the only person who has given that thought. Most people will have given it some thought at some point in life. Most people then decide it makes the least sense anything ever could possibly make. When you're dead, you're dead. No more choices. No more drink. No more fun. No more opportunities. No more you.

Now I have to go to the Isle of Skye. I've spent the last week in real hell, not self-created or imaginary not enough to occupy my mind hell, but England. No offence English people, but there are about 50 million too many of you crammed into that feckin country, may I never experience it again and now I'm going to the fresh clean empty space that is the north of Scotland to recover.

Jmpet, try to stay kicking until I get back, mate.
