Yeah...everyone knows what a treat a visit to the DMV is.

    Why, it's just like Disneyland!

The CEO would change each 4 years and no matter how well the company was doing, would only be allowed to serve 2 terms.

There would be an opposing boardroom, who's only job while being in opposition, would be to oppose the current CEO, so as to enhance their chances of being in charge of the company following the next election.

Elections would not require prospective CEO's to put forth concrete business plans, and would be based on jingoistic buzz-phrases.

Current CEO's would not run the country for the long term good, they would run the country by making decisions that would stand them in good stead for re-election.

CEO's would take the shareholder investments and use that money to give profits to other companies, with whom they have ties, and shares.

The above is true for most political parties of most Western countries.

Of all of the bankers and other wankers who've ruined the global economy, how many are in prison and how many of them are sitting pretty on millions and billions of tax haven cash?

It takes a long time to register a stolen car.

Have you any freaking idea what those ladies are doing besides listening to people like you kvetching about how long it took to reach the window?

Find out and tell me about it, then I might have some reason to take your whining seriously.

Hog wash. Anybody with a Blue Tooth in his ear does not look like he is there to see to the needs of people actually present in the room with him.

I have always felt that every cell phone should be issued with a large tube of K-Y Jelly.

If you have to interrupt your conversation with me to tell someone on the phone that you will get back to him, do not expect to do any further business with me. In fact, if I do not really need your product, you just lost a sale. That is so freaking rude.

As much as I hate to agree. Our DMV here is run a like a well oiled machine. The lady who runs it gets the job done and has express lines and number systems etc...her campaign motto is something like "taxes are bad enough, you shouldn't have to wait in line to pay them." Our DMV is the tax collector here too. Compared to Comcast service...DMV is better.

But all the private companies that do have bad service like the phone companies and cable companies are all government backed in highly regulated fields. They don't have real competition for services. The best places for service are those places with greater competition like restaraunts.

Well, I would hope that the call center in the Philippines is not processing any paperwork related to whether you are in compliance with local laws or verifying that you are who you say you are.

As to the subject in specifics, I concur with the OP.

As to service at the DMV in general, it depends on where you live as to just how awful the experience will be. In New Jersey, they treat you like garbage. Going through a NJ vehicle inspection is like being interrogated by robotic Nazi's. The useless schmucks could not be more aloof or more arrogant at the same time, and they LIVE to put a fail sticker on your windshield. I'm surprised many of them have never been accidently run over as "customers" exit the station.

After moving away from NJ I found the experience to be much less revolting, but still the OP holds true. You want waste of money and time, go to a government run monopoly. What government lovers never seem to grasp is that when there is no need to make a profit and an endless till of resources (taxes) there is no incentive. Add to that public employee unions telling their members not to work too hard and you have the DMV or any state run road crew fixing potholes.

They are there for one purpose only, and that is to ensure that, if your vehicle is not up to codes, it is off the road. Where's the beef?
I am sure some of them do try it. I am sure that a lot of them try to badger the inspectors. I have seen it on a small scale at emissions testing here. Letting the customer know that the best way for both of you to have a pleasant day is to have everything in order when you drive in and that you just go get it fixed if it is out of order. They have too many other customers to worry about to let you think that you can BS your way around them.

What the hell does that mean?

I have never tried to BS my way around anyone. I am as polite as a church lady when dealing with public services and their employees. The NJ DMV is all pricks, that is simply a fact. Go move there and enjoy the abuse.

Your last point, you have evidently never witnessed or been privy to world of useless state road crews. THAT ought to be self-evident.

With my job I can do this easily. I choose when I an face to face with customers.
I would be willing to bet that most here have had an unpleasant visit it their local DMVs.

I was only polite. Never said a word about their inability to do their jobs in a timely manner or with any kind of manners. Maybe if people would see them putting forth some effort they wouldn't be so angry. Do things like not taking their lunch at the same time. I know it doesn't change how fast the work gets done but it the customers don't see empty desk for a long period of time. Split up their lunches so their is someone there at all times. Bring in help even if its for the simplest of task. We are non union so this may be easier then some places. Little thing like this could change the attitudes of the customers. The biggest would be their attitude. Change their attitude toward us the customers.

C'mon people, lets think about it.
Are all DMV people the same? Are all businesses alike?
I have gone to DMV branches and was treated courteously, receiving prompt service, and I have been to businesses receiving the same.
Now and then we come across those who don't meet our expectations, but more often than not do we receive what we asked for.

The problem comes when you can't fire the ones that are lazy and rude. One or two bad hires the DMV are stuck with these employees.

So in your opinion, the majority of Drivers Services Facilities, operate more efficiently than the private sector and understand the client/customer relationship better than business?
