The Biden Administration has no idea what it wants to do in International Relations. And can give no valid reasons for what it is doing. So why are we involved in so many confrontations, conflicts and wars?
I cast my vote for "other" because "the Biden Administration couldn't purchase a clue" wasn't available.
Yes, I'll have to go for 'other' because I left my opinion off the selection. My choice would be: 'don't go to war except in the unlikely event we are in actual danger and going to war would protect us'.
I see, are you claiming that Biden never outlines his policies on foreign relations? That's a rather odd statement.
Because this is an administration that only reacts to a crisis. It never does anything proactive to prevent a crisis. That's why.
One way to get around the 'fog of war' is to only evaluate wars 20 years ago or earlier. The present war always has a lot of hoopla - we really got it right this time!!! When the Vietnam War was just starting Congress voted for it 504 in favor, 2 against despite the absence of a good reason, except of course 'they are commies', even though they weren't. And if you think the wars being started right now are any better, then I have an acre of sea water to sell you.
we go to war at the drop of a hat because war projects strength and the us feels it must project strength. we need to be seen as the good guys, fighting for a just cause. if there is no just cause we will choose between the available causes and decide that one of them is just. we live in a world that constantly seeks to tear down the big dog and we are just about as big as dogs get. not getting involved in all of these little pissing matches is seen as weakness by the global community. is what we do right? of course not. it would be far better to head these conflicts off at the pass, but we do not elect the best and the brightest and, in turn, they tend to appoint people even dumber than themselves to make the decisions for them. we are caught in an endless cycle of stupidity accompanied by a tremendous flushing sound.
Because the U.S. does not exist in a vacuum unaffected by what happens in the rest of the world no matter how hard the isolationists try to pretend otherwise.
The good reason is it threatens the post-WWII world order of big countries not gobbling up small countries because they can. Intervening in a civil war for the side we like better is more suspect. This is not that. You compare it to the mistakes of the cold war, the excessive policy of containment. But it's more like WWII, preventing the resurgence of imperialism.
When you don't know what to do, do nothing, is ancient wisdom and still frequently quoted and used in many situations. I've heard in US political debate the phrase 'we can't just do nothing', and that frequently precedes some knee-jerk downright disastrous actions, like the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Biden is also run by neocons just as 'frat boy' G W Bush was, and is following the same path of starting wars here there and everywhere to show he is in charge, and dispel any doubt that he has no idea all all about what he is trying to do. In his case it's 'when you don't know what to do, do a bit of everything'.
