The Pennsylvania senator didn't beat around the bush. He came out and was totally open about himself in revealing his sexual orientation in the course of important legislative business. KUDOS to the senator for having the courage to be who he is.

Next week, he'll be crying and saying stupid crap, like he just wants to be known as a state senator, not a gay senator....

And why is this (*)(*)(*)(*)ing important for anyone to know?

I'll tell you why - gayness is new "IT". It is fashionable to be gay, to talk about gays, to feel like you "understand" gays. And it earns points for being gay, as people and particularly voters "feel" for you.

Yep, remember when black was the 'it' thing? or when being a single mother was 'it'. Transgender will be 'it' next. God only knows what will be after that. Perhaps people that have sex with baby sheep.

Although I support abolishing government involvement in marriage, I definitely agree with you here. How it all works is fascinating - have you seen Glee?

It is worse than that. Black movement was all about civil rights; gay movement is all about being accepted as "normal". Well, it is not normal.

Agree. But I'm not even talking about legal aspects of it. I'm just talking about how it's the new 'cool' thing. In the early 90s some idiot white kids tried so hard to be black. In the late 90s/early 00s, remember how Oprah would have on 15 year old girls with a kid or two, and the audience would give them standing ovations because of how 'brave' and 'heroic' they were? Now you're lucky you can find a TV show that doesn't have at least one homo on it, even though gays make up what, 3% of the population?

No, it's just normal. Hence, not celebrated. The PC police just wants to give them a little platform. If he'd said "I'm straight", there would be crickets. Nor by the way would I 'celebrate it', I wouldn't deliberately kiss my girl on TV to make a statement(ALA: Michael Sam).

You don't think it's courageous to say something that many people will ridicule you for?

Look at this board, how many people came out and attacked him?

It's not like he's storming a bunker single handedly, but it does take some courage.

Did you read the article? He was speaking about a proposed change to Pennsylvania's hate crime law.

Lol... A regular Michael Sam, eh.

Well... it's too late for that now.

For the rest of his life he'll be "that gay senator".

    - - - Updated - - -

    No, gay.

    And welcome back.

If it takes "courage" to be something.... then maybe you're being the wrong thing.

1.5% but by the noise they make, you'd think most of people gays, they just do not know it. Yet.

    - - - Updated - - -

No it is not. It 's just NATURAL. and that's what gays want, be accepted as natural.

    Yea, right.

    - - - Updated - - -

And that made it necessary to announce he was gay? Do not think so.

If I win Governorship I'll ask members of the State Senate to nullify the Hate Crime Law. Political Correctness chose winners/losers, making it difficult for crimes to be properly prosecuted. Shouldn't rape be a hate crime? Since the act violates/degrades women it takes a special kind of loathing to do that to women.

And yet, most acknowledge it as a "power crime". See, how difficult it is? No winners/losers, no special categories. Just enforce the laws on the book.

Some of you posters may think I'm Republican because of my views on foreign policy, but when it comes to all of poitics, I'm very moderate. I agree, kudos to this man.

Want to know what I believe? I believe all tax-paying legal citizens and residents have the legal right to marry (in the eyes on state and federal law). I believe that if two consenting adults want to marry and get the same benefits everyone else does, who are we to stop them? It's their constitutional right to receive the same freedoms. I hate when people say "what about a goat, can I marry a goat"? Bad argument. A goat doesn't pay taxes and isn't a legal US citizen protected under the Constitution.

Sorry for ranting. As a Soldier, I believe that we fight for the rights and protection of everyone that our Constitution protects. I feel like freedom is being denied by many.

Marriage(including heterosexual) is not a right, it's a privilege. A privilege that in the 21st century can be revoked by a woman refusing, or through divorce. The very idea of consent denies that it's a right, as you don't need privilege to exercise rights.

Do you need permission from your family to eat? No? Why not? Because you have a right to your general welfare.

As it relates to Gay Marriage, it has the unique quality of being an affront to all a person believes. Like having a vegetarian tell the meat eater that he slaughters pigs. Because of the utter lack of assimilation,(hell, let's not beat around the bush the lack of compatibility) conflict ensues.

Because of our inherent differences, I believe the LBGT community should stay to itself and "harmony"(or as close to it as possible) will prevail.

Absolutely. A financier can mention that they're a financier when talking about policy regarding finance; a prosecutor can mention that they're a prosecutor when discussing policy regarding the law; and a gay person can mention that they are gay when discussing policy regarding homosexuality.

I know. There are many conservatives who want to shut up gay people. This is fascism. If they want to run around screaming "I'm gay! I'm gay!", that's not only their right, but it does no harm. Yes, social conservatives want to shut them up because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
