Economics is like psychology, its not an exact science. So no, there is no truth to it, its just a best guess.
It isn't a science at all. It is social analysis. There are a few universally accepted things in it such as the law of supply and demand. But not many. It is basically a collection of opinions, most of which compete with one another.
