    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...coronavirus-96-without-symptoms-idUSKCN2270RX

After a recent spike in cases at the Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina, state correctional officials tested all 723 prisoners last week. Of the 444 who were infected by the virus, 98% were asymptomatic, the state’s department of public safety said. One inmate has died at the prison.

    And this:

In the seven state prison systems conducting mass tests, 49 inmates have died.

If this pans out and 98% of infected are asymptomatic, then this is YUGE! That means the actual mortality rate is probably less that 1/10th of a percent.

    This is compelling information!

This is really interesting information, but there are two important caveats.

    1) As noted by the article, those who are asymptomatic now might still go on to develop symptoms.
    2) Those who are currently sick with the virus can still die by the virus.

Regarding your #1, some of the testing was weeks ago, and still no symptoms. So it's unlikely that they ever will. It would be different if these tests were performed yesterday. This latest findings in the prisons goes along with what was found in the sampling in CA and NY.
If this is all accurate, this could be leading to some very interesting and fascination statistics to the amount of people who were infected.

It's weird who this virus kills and who it spares. Republican States have much lower infection rates than Blue States, but that is likely explained by studies that show that low testosterone levels are associated with high death rates.

TRUMP COMES THROUGH AGAIN: U.S. to Get Sanofi Covid Vaccine First If It Succeeds, CEO Says.

That’s because the U.S. was first in line to fund Sanofi’s vaccine research, Chief Executive Officer Paul Hudson said in an interview with Bloomberg News. He warned that Europe risks falling behind unless it steps up efforts to seek protection against a pandemic that’s killed more than 290,000 people worldwide.

“The U.S. government has the right to the largest pre-order because it’s invested in taking the risk,” Hudson said. The U.S., which expanded a vaccine partnership with the company in February, expects “that if we’ve helped you manufacture the doses at risk, we expect to get the doses first.”

If that is true then can you explain the mess in Italy and New York? Maybe most as asymptomatic but will develop symptoms. Also, prisoners tend to be younger and healthier. They live in closer quarters so there will be a higher infection rate.

What I would derive is that the infection rate in these states were MUCH greater than we are reporting and also that the population is older and more susceptible to the virus.

Uh...what? The bolded makes no sense. Even if it were not total bullshit that the populations in blue states somehow have less testosterone than the populations in red states - and that is absolutely bullshit...

This virus kills more men than women and I have seen articles regarding a treatment of testosterone deprivation being effective.

Therapy to reduce men’s testosterone seen as promising coronavirus treatment

I find this rational presentation of information troubling.

Especially as since this was posted, 30 million Americans have died, 43 million of them prisoners.

That's easily 4 billion dead Americans, 6 trillion of them prisoners!!

    Correct.

    Here:

    https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/lowering-testosterone-may-reduce-severity-covid-19

    And the study, here:

    https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/202003.0360/v2

On the other hand, there is this:

    https://www.healio.com/news/endocri...e levels may,according to a literature review.

It might be a correlation, merely because older men have lower testosterone and they also have other underlying medical conditions.

    -----------

As for the OP being impressed with the population in prisons having little morbidity and mortality, duh. Prison populations are much younger than the average population. You don't see a lot of 80-year-olds in prisons, so, it's not surprising that they have a lower morbidity and mortality.

Ice cream sales increase in the summer in a similar curve as the increase in shark attacks. This is a correlation, not causality. Ice cream doesn't cause shark attacks.
