The House now plans to vote on Thursday to set up a powerful new oversight committee with subpoena power to probe the trillions of dollars of federal spending in response to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Democratic-led committee, which Republicans have resisted, is expected to have broad power to oversee the historic-level of US spending to prop up the economy and combat the public health crisis. It is not expected to probe the initial response by President Donald Trump, who has been sharply criticized by Democrats for moving too slowly.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi abruptly made the decision Wednesday morning to move forward with the vote after she decided to postpone a vote on an unprecedented change in the House rules to let members vote remotely, saying the matter needed to be reviewed further.

This sounds like a GREAT idea.

Trump (and his cronies, like Mnuchin) need some oversight.

Very glad to see this development.

    Thoughts?

So dear Ice Cream Mistress, who do you intend to put in charge of your committee? How is this going to go over ANY better in district courts then the last time you tried to improperly subpoena documents?

Even for critics of Trump, you must realize the Democratic Party is in absentee. It declined in letting Trump win in the first place, now it's declined to the point of irrelevancy.

    Huh?

Do you have any "contribution" that doesn't involve Off-Topic "Whataboutism"?

It seems like you are Blatantly Derailing the Thread.:bored:

Once again, I think this panel is a great idea.

This sort of Federal Money needs vigorous oversight.

Copypasta (Whataboutism) isn't going to cut it.:bored:

More investigations that bear no fruit. Trump will continue to win regardless.

    Great Job President Trump!

Republicans spent four years investigating Obama’s response to the Benghazi affair, something that involved four American lives and zero economic impact.

Do Trump fans honestly think that Trump’s response to Covid-19, an event which will kill thousands and cost trillions of tax dollars WOULDN’T or SHOULDN’T be investigated? Even just for no other reason than to prepare for the next virus?

    Really?

Bold: That right there is the question. If she puts someone like Schiff in charge of it you can guarantee that it will be a partisan witchhunt meant to ONLY target Trump and dig up whatever dirt possible for completely partisan political reasons meant to affect the election. If however they put someone in charge that is a relatively unknown then I don't see a problem with it. Well...at least it will be less of a problem than if someone like Schiff is in charge. Some oversight SHOULD be done on the spending. Just need to make sure that is its SOLE purpose.

It's not whataboutism. It's a list of reasons that I hope that they do the "investigation" rather than legislation. I entirely support their decision to screw themselves again. The Republicans can use the votes.
