Remember the international news story 6 years ago about the woman, Jyoti Singh, who was gang raped in India and died, and the subsequent outrage that spread across India demanding the death penalty for the ones who committed the violent rape?

Well, it turns out the crowds in India weren't just calling for the death penalty because the woman had been gang raped and died. It was much worse than that.

It turns out there was a media blackout, both in India and the Western media, to prevent the grizzly details from getting out, in India for fear of fanning uncontrollable riots, and in the West trying to prevent an overly negative view of foreign immigrant-sending countries.

Before you click on this link, be warned that the details are very very dark and disturbing:

There was very good reason the story sparked outrage across India. In fact the story sparked riots and the Indian police had to (literally) beat back demonstrators because they couldn't control the crowds. Not surprisingly the mainstream Indian media complied with government requests to tone down the story (awful as it still was) so it would not fan the flames and lead to more widespread demonstrations that could turn violent. Word of some of the details still got around though, albeit it got around more slowly.

Although the perpetrators were Hindu by religion, the article does speculate on a historical muslim connection. The incident happened in Rajasthan, India's far western province, bordering Pakistan, and there are a lot of awful things that go on in Rajasthan, not unlike the type of things that can happen in Pakistan. There's also a lot of sand and desert in Rajasthan.

During the medieval period in Rajasthan, it was very common for upper class women to get together and throw themselves on a large fire to burn rather than suffer the dishonor and terrible fate that awaited them at the hands of invading muslim forces.

    @kazenatsu Our medias and government highly watered down what happend in France the 13 November, not only 130 people died but they were heavily tortured too. I'm not surprized of that;

Whoever commited that, they're out of any possible forgiveness, death is the only acceptable fate for them.

@yasureoktoo I'm a self-proclaimed islamophobic, but muslims aren't the only one which has no respect for women and in a general way human life. You just have to know what happens in some part of "christian" Africa, and for what the noble Dr Mukwege has to fight.
What happens in south america is aswell dreadfull for women.

The kind of people which commit that kind of actions understand only one language : brutality and fear. They don't speak another language.

People which can't respect the value of the life of a woman or a man must have to fear the executionner.

Women get a raw deal all over, Most, if not All, religions are written by men, and they put the woman in her place, of servitude.

I think it's a little bit more complexe. First because we're judging ancient times along our own modern values. But we don't live in the same conditions. In the past, there was no contraception and a lot of child death. It was common to have between 6 to 12 children and only the half to survive. 90 % of work were manual, physically challenging jobs. Women and men are deeply unequal on the point of physical abilities, men being almost always stronger than women. If a society is living different challenges, it's logical they're living according to a different way.
Ancient societies were based on obedience, feminists want us to believe that all women were of inferior rank than men, but it's false. A noble woman had a better status than a male commoner. In ancient societies, everyone was in servitude, if you were a commoner, you served a noble family, if you were a noble family, it was extremly likely that you served a more important noble family. Kings and Sultans were supposed to serve god. People are projecting their principle of freedom in societies where freedom didn't existed for anyone.
We're judging societies we can't understand because our societies are too radically different.

There is fake news as pretending that people in middle age believed that women didn't had souls.
Despite that, christian worshipped the virgin mary for hundred of years, there is many christian female saints.

I'm not an expert on arabic and muslim history so I won't be able to make the comparison.

I won't deny that there were a lot of scorn for women in those times, but it's not as that simple than people tend to present it.

If they give them too much freedom, the next thing you know they will want to "vote", and heaven forbid,...….."drive".
