Got to love government. Only it could change a laudable rescue mission into thieving and gun grabbing. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com...f-guns/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
The OPer didn't read the same story I did. The RCMP temporarily took possession of the guns because they were not stored securely and any looter could have come along and stolen them. When the owners move back home they will get their guns back - probably with a little lecture on gun safety.
I don't see that it's any more appropriate to suspect the RMCP were doing anything untoward than it would be to assume anyone who owns a gun of doing so.
Ayuh,.... Much like the Citizens of New Orleans bein' relieved of their Rights to self-defense after the hurricane,..?? State sponsored gun confiscation is all the same, just under different false accusations,...
That was the excuse the gun grabber police thugs gave after Katrina...It took several years and a lot of legal money to force the police to return the items they had stolen.
And your evidence that the RCMP would do the same is what, exactly? I believe you are talking about the most conservative province (state) in Canada which has a conservative provincial government and a strong representation in a conservative federal government (actually called the Conservatives). There's not a lot of room for liberal plotting there.
What's the upside for the Canadian government? Venality usually means there is some benefit to the person or organization being venal.
Just to drive a nail in JMV's coffin, I did a little more surfing and found that a year ago the federal (national) Conservatives actually abolished a gun registry system for long guns (rifles and shotguns, presumably) that was originally put in place by the Liberal Party (I kid you not). http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/15/long-gun-registry-abolished/ Is this the behavior of a government plotting to take away guns from its citizens?
Why gun grabbing of course...the Canadian government has tried that for decades - - - Updated - - - Is the IRS targeting conservatives in the USA normal or legal behavior? No, but it happened.
Glad to see you gave up and switched targets, JIMV. Of course your new point only has a passing relationship to your original point, but only a mean-spirited nit-picker would point that out. I guess that makes me a mean-spirited nit-picker who has a respect for logic and the facts.
