yet its not a slur if its used within the community, it takes its power away if its not exclusively used by white slavers. or do you have a problem with the power of the word diminishing?
granted, maybe its a phase in "gangsta rap". let them grow it needs no input from you or any white folk, thats if your ego allows it.
The people that use "******" are the very same people that cannot speak, read, or write English. And I don't care what color the may be.
How about it not be used at all. It makes me flinch, just as retard does, and a few other words people use. It's rude, insensitive, and oblivious to the impact of the word in general. It doesn't 'diminish'. That is where I think you are not understanding: it doesn't matter who says it, it still means the same thing. Equality means everybody gets the same treatment, the same opportunities. It also means that the same response holds true, regardless of who uses it.
As long as Whites call each other the N word when they are among each other, I guess that's OK. (I've always known that Whites use the word freely---even the ones who claim that they don't say it.)
If I can't say it, then it can't be in music. Otherwise its not my fault if I sing along, which is what I do if the music is any good. *No, I havn't heard music that is any good that has the N-word in it, but that dont mean it dont exist.
Well if they do it when they forget, like when they are excited over a song that they enjoy, it's pretty damn petty to berate them over that.
I am an African-American woman. I never use words that demean or dehumanize people of other races. Even when I am at home or among family members in public, I don't do it. It's ignorant and ugly to use hurtful language. I don't use the N word either. Just because some rapper uses the word in a song doesn't make it OK. The great author, Maya Angelou, once said that words have power. She was absolutely right. Words do have power. They have the power to heal and the power to hurt. Wouldn't you rather use your words to heal?
I totally agree and I never use the word either. So, my point is, the rappers shouldn't be using it either, and if they DO use it, nobody should be upset if some white guy says the word while singing along. Both the black and white guy sound stupid, but if it is acceptable to one, it should be acceptable to both while singing along. Art is art, and shouldn't be censored based on race.
I guess you missed the point of the thread. The point is, MANY African Americans DO use the N word in songs that they intend to sell. They want people to sing along. But if other races can't sing along because the word offends someone, then by definition, the rapper is a racist...
It's not just one, it's tons of men and women in the music industry using it. And then they get mad when people use the words that THEY PUT in their lyrics that aren't black. Do you know what racism is? That's by definition, racist.
I won't be returning to this thread. The conversation is going in circles. Practice social distancing. Wear a mask while in public. Wash your hands frequently. Take care and stay safe. Bye.
Of course it's Ok. We are homo-sapient and just one race the human race. It seems so silly that when one types the N we all act like ohhhh I wonder what he meant by referring to the N word. That's like S**T. Culture police. You really got to hate em.
It's more fun to have the family sing it in karaoke and just say "N word" whenever the N word comes up. Not to offend anyone; you know.
Another one... Stranger Things' Noah Schnapp Apologizes for - and Denies - Using Racial Slur Stranger Things’ actor Noah Schnapp apologized for singing the N-word in a video that resurfaced on social media. In the video, the Will Byers actor is shown in the back of a car singing along to Chris Brown and Lil Dicky's song "Freaky Friday" with his friends. The song uses the racial slur several times, but the specific verse Schnapp was recorded singing starts off saying, "Wait, can I really say the N-word?" before repeating the slur multiple times. Again the lesson is that music that uses the N-word is for black people only, and you take a risk by listening to it, let alone singing along with it.
It's not a matter of OK, its a matter of attempting to usurp language and make words only accessible to some. That is both racist and dangerous...
