It makes no sense to blame Trump for China virus deaths

The polls are showing people don't approve of Trump's handling of the virus. Why? What did they expect? He is only a man not God. He's done a tremendous job ramping up our production of supplies, PPE's, hospital beds and ventilators, fast tracking therapeutics and vaccines in record times. I don't know what he could have done better and frankly, neither does Biden.

But worst of all, democrats are gleeful about the rising death rate. They blame every one of them on Trump. This behavior os despicable and evil. Capitalizing on the deaths of our fellow citizens is sickening. Exploiting the deaths of nearly 200K people for political gain is shameful and inexcusable. Scoring political points from the body count to try to gain votes is a new low for Democrats.

We understand you hate Donald Trump
We understand that you want to impose socialism on us against our will. We understand you want unfettered power to enact your extremist political ideas. What we don't understand is how you can blame Donald Trump for a virus that he didn't unleash on us. He is no more responsible for the deaths of those people than Obama was for H1N1 deaths.

If anything, President Trump should be given credit for his fast action in restricting travel from CHINA the same week the House was busy impeaching him in the Senate.

While people with Covid were flying into New York by the hundreds from Europe???How do you account for us who are 4% of the world population having 25% of the worlds Covid cases and 25 % of the worlds deaths from it for almost 8 months???? Trump created the ventilator crisis by CANCELLING THE MAINTENANCE contract on them in August 2019, and not signing a new much more expensive contract until March 2020.

There was never a shortage of ventilators. Even if there had been, it would not have changed the death rate much because the death rate on the ventilators was as high as 90% at one time and the percent on ventilators was not that high to start with.

We already had our second wave when Trump told us to open up to early.

    Your Google broken again?

WASHINGTON — President Trump has repeatedly assured Americans that the federal government is holding 10,000 ventilators in reserve to ship to the hardest-hit hospitals around the nation as they struggle to keep the most critically ill patients alive.

But what federal officials have neglected to mention is that an additional 2,109 lifesaving devices are unavailable after the contract to maintain the government’s stockpile lapsed late last summer, and a contracting dispute meant that a new firm did not begin its work until late January. By then, the coronavirus crisis was already underway.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/us/politics/coronavirus-ventilators.html

    900,000 deaths world wide.
    We have 193,000 of them.

There may be good news and bad news, but the fact remains that early on Trump took time off that should have been used to keep us safe. Why? He didn't want to look bad.
He bullies governors to open to early creating a second wave. Why? He's afraid it will make him look bad.
He is still doing it by pushing schools to reopen without giving them good guidance. Why? He doesn't want to look bad.
What really looks bad is 200,000 deaths when other countries have it pretty much under control even though they had no warning like we had.

Too early? The shutdown was only supposed to be two weeks, then two weeks more. I don't know about where you live, but we are still in the middle of a shutdown going on 5 month. The shutdown was only supposed to be temporary so that we didn't overwhelm the hospitals. Shutdowns didn't stop the spread, it only put it off for a while. And he's following the advice of the CDC.

That's the problem. He pushed them to reopen before they met the CDC guidelines.
I live in one of those states - Arizona. I remember him coming here to push it with our Governor and Boom! We were shut down again.

They expected the US, with all its resources, would not have the worst COVID response on the planet.

Now it's even worse than that, I fear. The rumors are that his new adviser whom he loves, the quack nutjob known as Dr. Scott Atlas, is the one pushing for the stupid herd immunity approach, and that's why there is a push to reopen schools and restart sports, in the hope that the virus will spread more and reach the herd immunity threshold, which is boneheaded and quasi-criminal as it will cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans who will be otherwise saved if this is NOT done and we wait for a vaccine.

It makes no sense to blame him for all of the deaths. It also makes no sense to excuse him for our country's lackluster response and his continuing disinformation.

Not the very worst, but certainly among the worst. We're at the bottom of the barrel on this response.

What makes you say that? We have really low rate of death and more testing than anyone. The rate of death has fallen tremendously. If the infection rate is Donald Trump's fault, then is every leader of every country at fault for the number of infections in their own nation as well? Or can we blame China?

We have more testing than anyone . . . unless you count per capita. Then we have fairly low testing . . . and Trump has resisted even that much testing. And, no, we don't really have a low death rate when compared to other countries. We have among the highest.

This virus has nothing to do with hating or loving America! Divorce this issue from politics; we have a serious problem and we need to deal with it. 20% of the deaths in the world occurred in the US that is the only statistic one needs to know. The current administration needs to unite the country and come up with a clear plan and fight the battle. Patriotic Americans should expect no less.

Wrong. Only several smaller nations, (Luxembourg, UAE, Bahrain) have higher rates of testing per capita.

While Nancy told us to visit Chinatown, Cuomo or Deblasio told people to watch movies, take the subway and stuffed positive cases in nursing homes?

20% eh? Well that tells me either Americans are genetically unique is such a way as to be more susceptible to the virus or, other countries aren't testing as much due to lack of available tests and aren't padding the numbers on the cause of death for political reasons by adding deaths from co-morbidities.

It's actually statistically impossible that the US has 3% of the world population and 20% of covid-19 deaths. Covid-19 doesn't hate Americans more than other nationalities.
