Hmmmm - consider why. Suddenly you have people with reduced student loan debt and jobs so guess who is moving out of mum and dads house - market is groaning with sudden influx new renters sooooo…..

I have no task here. You do, but it appears you're not up to the task of explaining why we should throw Jews to the Muslim wolves.
A rentier is someone whose income is principally derived from investments. I haven't collected a paycheck in twenty years.

I opened earlier that machines will do all the work, so we should not use immigration to bolster an obsolete work force.

Rentier not renter . From the French for dividend
A rentier lives off investment income, not labor.

Unless you count clipping coupons as labor.

It is not just the women whose healthcare is affected. The inability to control pregnancy HAS increased birth rates in states like Texas which has strained the already at capacity maternal and child health services pushing back on Emergency departments etc etc

You do realize the Saudis are Muslims?

    Interesting.

    When? In 5, 10, 25 years?

Sounds like something a "rentier" would say.

I avoid debates on abortion as there can never be a meeting of the twain. But, I have no doubt that the issue will play a major part in this election.

Women will win the day, as they should.

    All evidence to the contrary.

    https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/02/majority-americans-pro-choice-red-states.html

"But public opinion in red states is not always aligned with the majority party’s positions, as shown by voters in deep-red Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana rejecting anti-abortion ballot measures last year."

    Regarding more women registering tonvote:

I'm not claiming absolutes here, but so far, in state after state, voters are saying "NO" to abortion bans.

Nuanced thinking isn't for everyone. I think one of Trump's appeals to his base is the fact that he provides simple answers to every issue.

Having a discussion on two different topics is not a formula for a good thread.

First it seemed you wanted this thread to be about the economy and its impact on the election.
But then you seemed to go off course and make the discussion mostly about abortion.

It is kind of sad if the Democrats are going to rely on the issue of abortion for this election campaign.

(For numerous reasons, not least of which is Trump himself was not even very anti-abortion)

I would disagree that "chaos" has ensued. And I am very skeptical about the claims that women have died, or that it is more than a very tiny handful.

None of the specific stories, posted in the Abortion section of this thread, about women allegedly having died, have seemed to pan out. The Pro-Choice side seems desperate to find any case where a woman has died and then try to ascribe that to anti-abortion laws, even when common sense would tell anyone who actually looked at all the details of the case that the link between the two in the story seems very dubious and unlikely.

It seems to try to stop any abortion law, the automatic go-to for the Pro-Choice side is the claim that "Women will die". No matter how reasonable or likely that claim actually is.

Now, if you want to get into the SPECIFICS, we can do that. Either in this thread, or you can post a link in this thread to another thread.

lol Read the post title. Abortion was clearly the main topic. And no matter how much you want to force a 13-year-old raped by her stepfather to give birth, Americans will not stand for it.

We've talked about the details of that in the Abortion section (in this forum), extensively.

But you don't want to actually talk about the details of that here, because you know if you just say "Those against abortion want to force a raped 13-year-old to give birth", it sounds really bad, like Pro-Lifers could have no possible legitimate justification in that situation.

I could point out arguments like "The molestation is likely to continue, even if she gets an abortion. In fact her stepfather will likely keep forcing her to get abortions over and over again. And the abortion will just make it easier for the perpetrator to conceal the sexual abuse."
Or maybe I could ask do you still support abortion for a 13 year old when the girl doesn't have an opinion of her own, is only doing what she is told, and the pregnancy has reached a developmental age when there is a pretty much a baby inside her. Maybe she doesn't want to kill the baby but she is being forced by her family members, likely the family member who was abusing her.
Simply allowing abortion doesn't address all those issues.

I don't know how you reached that conclusion, given the title of this thread. Did you not understand this part?

"This election, change just the one word, and the Democrats could nail the coffin shut on the GOP for the next four years and likely beyond, at least as far as congress goes."

It seems you may not have understood what word I meant by "change just the one word." Apologies if I was unclear. In 1992, the word was "economy." For this year, change it to "autonomy," meaning a woman's autonomy over her own body. This thread was always about abortion.

I never said the Dems were going to campaign only on one issue.

If you're going to issue a challenge like that, you should do your homework first.

    https://sph.tulane.edu/news/study-f...ality-rates-states-more-abortion-restrictions

"States with more restrictive abortion policy climate have higher total maternal mortality"

    https://www.commonwealthfund.org/pu...health-divide-limited-services-worse-outcomes

What specifics? I created this thread to discuss the overturning of Roe and how that is likely to backlash against Republican candidates in November.

And FYI, the reason most pro choice people give when trying to change or overturn abortion restrictions is that we don't want the government interfering in our personal medical issues and choices.

Price of food up 50% in four years Social security up around 10%.
The cheap labor democrat voted coalition bill merely codifies the mess and does nothing to fix it. HR2 which the Democrats refuse to bring to the floor actually would fix it.we need people with skill sets for the 21st century not the 19th. And we certainly didn't need a hundredk fentanyl deaths a year and another 600k known felons.

Lettuce and many other crops can be and are harvested by machines. Google machine harvesting.

The price of food went up about 32-35%, didn't it? Where'd you get that 50% stat? Your info could be better than mine on that. You're right about the paltry SS increase. I wrote a Dear Joe email on that inequity. I maxed out a credit card paying for groceries and other necessities.

As for skill sets, what type of college degree qualifies a person for picking lettuce? Or Construction work? How about loading pallets of tomatoes onto a truck?

If those technologically talented types want to immigrate here, it isn't very hard for them. The trouble is that over the last few decades, more smart, modernly educated people are staying put, either through loyalty to home or trepidation over our current state of political chaos. We only approve 65,000 H1-Bsper year, chosen by lottery. H1-Bs are a good way to get a foot in the door and apply for more permanent status.

It isn't all done by machines, not by a long way, a
Not for everything, and not on all farms. And I'm sure you understood my meaning, so that's a bit nitpicky.

Sure, it will be a while before machine harvesting is wide spread.

The point is we shouldn't import farm workers who Will be obsolete in a few decades.

Most of them only stay during planting and harvest times. While they're here, they contribute to local economies and pay taxes.

It will be years, maybe decades, before we can completely do without farm workers. Meanwhile ...
