Finally, Jeb is coming out of the closet. And just think, some in the GOP establishment are considering him as a replacement to Mitt if it came down to a brokered convention. http://swampland.time.com/2012/02/24/did-jeb-bush-actually-say-that/
The article makes a good point. Jeb Bush is a true conservative and probably represents the republicans far better than any of these weirdo's running today. Maybe that's why the republicans can't get behind one candidate for more than a week or two.
Word on the street is that he's waiting until 2016. Who knows? If the Republicans' convention ends up brokered, it could be free-for-all and we all know how the Republicans would love to continue their political Kingsmanship.
I think his comments are a testament to the circus that this primary race has been. All Republican fear tactics and absolutely NO substance at all. I really honestly can't remember, since 9-9-9, an actual idea presented by any of the 4 remaining candidates (okay, Paul has ideas, but not one would EVER be passed by Congress). Seriously, their only tactics right now are that the "other" guy will make things worse than they will, and then they'll run on the stance that Obama will make things worse than they will. Yet not one of them has an idea for making this country any better. Its not a surprise that the GOP is a mess and doomed to lose in a landslide. I wouldn't be surprised if besides the Obama landslide victory, the left takes back the House and once again gets a supermajority in the Senate. How could they not right now based on behavior of the fractured, destructive right over the last 2 years (well, 12 years)
Jeb's just watching the windsocks and knows that Romney scrawed himself big time by pandering to the far right. Jeb will never be a moderate. He's way right of George.
Barring the sudden death of a majority of the House republicans, the odds of the dems taking it back are slim to none. The best they can hope for is to pick up enough seats to put it in range in 2014. Simply not enough close races for it to be conceivable this year.
Did the word 'compassionate' throw you off? I've seen Jeb attack the entire New Deal. George might have said that, too, but I never heard him say it.
He is. And his record in Florida left a lot to be desired. But he is an intelligent man, which is why the right-wing circus the cons have going this election has disgusted him. He may still have his day. It would be great to see a Jeb/Hillary contest in 2016. It might help to improve the political tone in the US.
That's it. Throw another Conservative overboard just because he demonstrates reasonableness and independent thought. The Republican party is becoming an intolerant cult. Jeb is right. "Conservatism" has changed.....and changed mightily.
Maybe they're trying to remake his image the same way they did his brother's. They turned George into a "cowboy" to camouflage all his many shortcomings and make him appear electable. They were trying to wait until the memory of his brother's fiasco in office had faded somewhat before they threw Jeb in to continue the "Bush Dynasty" but maybe this pathetic field of candidates has made them think this is his golden opportunity and they're trying to establish him as a "different kind of Conservative" from those that everybody's so unhappy with before they take him to the Convention to claim the crown.
Right - but they didn't have to remake his entire image to do that. George Bush had never lived on a ranch in his life until just before he entered the presidential race. The only way they could cover up the fact that he couldn't string words together in a sentence or know any useful facts was to make him a "plain talkin', bumblin' good ol' cowboy" which fooled an awful lot of people. It won't be hard at all to have Jeb Bush come out at this point and say "My goodness! Look at all those people doing all those stupid things because they want to be president! Now ME - I'm different!" And don't tell me you and the rest of the RWers wouldn't jump all over him in relief if he did that. LOL!
Why do people find it so difficult to provide the actual quotes? Is it that if people read the actual content, rather than the sound bite, they might draw a different conclusion? I used to be a conservative, and I watch these debates and Im wondering, I dont think Ive changed, but its a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to peoples fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective, and thats kind of where we are. I think Jeb's comment makes a lot of sense considering the current state of affairs.
Wow... You know, despite that whole fishy election scandal back in 2000, I have to admit that I have more respect for Jeb. He seems more like a fiscal conservative than what passes for conservative these days. It would be nice to see Jeb become more libertarian, but unfortunately, the libertarian wing of the GOP still is marginalized compared to the neocons and the Religious Right.
Do you honestly think any thing will improve the political tone? I can't remember a time when it has been this mean.
