Liberty University is finalizing plans for Jerry Falwell Jr. to resign as president of the college following a series of controversies, multiple news outlets have confirmed.

On Monday, reports surfaced that Falwell and his wife, Becki, were involved in a years-long sexual relationship with his former business partner, Giancarlo Granda. Falwell denied the charges, which were made by Granda, and claimed that his wife had an extra-marital affair.

Granda met the Falwells when he was just 20 and working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel. Now 29, Granda said the relationship became sexual in 2012 and continued on until 2018.

"Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room," Granda told Reuters.

    -----------

Although I am a Democrat who is liberal on economic and environmental issues, I have always viewed the religious right with a degree of interest and sympathy. This is because of my dislike for the sexual revolution. It has led to increases in divorce and illegitimacy. Children raised to adulthood by both biological parents living together in matrimony tend to have many fewer problems in life and through life than other children.

For years I was a card carrying member of the Moral Majority. I was a charter subscriber of Jerry Falwell's magazine The Fundamentalist, although I do not believe in the literal truth of the first eleven chapters of Genesis. That gets us from the Garden of Eden to the Tower of Babel. I would often watch Falwell's television ministry "The Old Time Gospel Hour."

The religious right has been bad at choosing presidents to support. In 1980 it abandoned the most sincerely Christian president we have probably ever had for a product of Hollywood who seldom attended church. In 2016 it reached even lower morally and gave its support to a foul mouthed, womanizing pagan.

Also, in the United States there is little the government can do to influence sexual behavior. Therefore it is not really a political issue. The religious right was unable to reverse the sexual revolution. By giving its support to the Republican Party it enabled the GOP to promote the growing income divide.

Jerry Falwell Jr. lacked the charisma of his father. He was unable to maintain "The Old Time Gospel Hour." He did have good administrative skills, and turned what had been an unaccredited college into a respected institution of learning where Republican presidential primary candidates felt the need to give speeches.

The survival of Liberty Baptist University is uncertain now.

The guy is a human being like everyone else.
I’m an atheist but have no problems with the religious right really since I think modern liberalism is the true enemy of mankind.
This guy’s downfall is sad and unfortunate.

I am not an atheist but, I too think that modern liberalism is an enemy of mankind. On the other side septic tank is the Religious right - who are also an enemy of mankind - for quite similar reasons. This guy comes from a line of charlatans - following in the same footsteps - engaged in the same hypocrisy. For me this is just a wee bit of karma playing out.
