Anti-government agitator Ammon Bundy must pay an Idaho hospital more than $50 million for defaming it and targeting it with protests while it cared for an associate’s grandson—who was taken into protective custody after child welfare officials determined he was malnourished.

Two months later, St. Luke’s hospital filed a defamation suit against Bundy and Diego Rodriguez, the child’s grandpa and an activist in Bundy’s far-right People’s Rights Network (PRN). The complaint also named their companies, including Rodriguez’s Freedom Man Press, which posted Baby Cyrus “kidnapping videos.”

At one point, Bundy even appeared to threaten a standoff over the legal battle. “They’re probably going to try to get judgments of over a million dollars and take everything they have from me,” Bundy told one local news site in December. “And I’m not going to let that happen. I’m making moves to stop that from happening. And if I have to meet ’em on the front door with my, you know, friends and a shotgun, I’ll do that. They’re not going to take my property.”

Looks like RW entities losing defamation suits is still in prime season (see below, in no particular order) with more to come.. (looking at you again, Fox "News")

    - A. Jones
    - Sexual abuser D. Trump
    - Fox "News"
    - A. Bundy

I didn't follow this case at all, but I just saw the link on my news feed.... Does an American proud though...

Does the hospital collect here? Sounds like it's gonna be tough, with this nutcase, but I hope they take EVERYTHING from him, in perpetuity...

    Found this snip interesting

A jury delivered its verdict on Monday: Bundy, Rodriguez, and their companies would owe $26.5 million in compensatory damages and nearly $26 million in punitive damages.

    Who are companies?

    And then this too

Known for armed standoffs with law enforcement, Bundy was a consistent no-show throughout the legal proceedings. In April, a judge issued a default judgment against Bundy and Rodriguez for failing to respond to the suit, leading Bundy to put out an emergency alert that falsely claimed cops surrounded his home and that beckoned his PRN disciples to show up to defend him.

    Lol what a kooky

Both of these guys have put companies together, to scam followers and probably as a tax dodge. Plaintiffs are totally informed and know you have to sue the men AND their money hidey holes these days... standard practice going forward...

The 2 companies were listed in the OP....

With a monetary adjudication, there isn't much resistance Bundy can put up, other than show. If necessary they can just go after his accounts.

They'll probably have to... he doesn't sound like somebody who will follow court orders voluntarily....

Think of all the good a hospital (especially in Idaho) can do with $50 million?

They should have sat on him the last time he was defiant. He probably thinks he can deny his way out of responsibility.

I think he's going the "ignore the ruling" route

    SNIP
Bundy told the Idaho Statesman, “I owe St. Luke’s nothing,” and said he has no plans to abide by the court decision.

“I plan on doing what I have been doing,” Bundy said. “Providing for my family and living life as much as normal.”

Bundy said he doesn’t plan to appeal the decision because he doesn’t “believe the court will bring justice to this.”

Does he not come to town? Does he not drive something that can be confiscated? Does he not have bank accounts that can be frozen?

Does he or his family not need medical care (perhaps at St. Lukes)?

Time to take these RW radicals down to collect...

However he handles his medical crisis in the future is up to him, but they will put a lien on his financial assets. In the end, Bundy will be a loud mouthed wanna be in a history book footnote.

Nope, the national refuge WAS this guy in 2016... Father and son did something over grazing fees in 2014.

Ammon Edward Bundy (born September 1, 1975)[2][3] is an American anti-government militant[4][5] and activist[6] who led the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.[7][8][9] He is the son of rancher Cliven Bundy, who was the central figure in the 2014 Bundy standoff in Nevada regarding unpaid grazing fees on federally-owned public land.

What is it with the name Bundy??

If this is the first time you're hearing the name Ammon Bundy, I can understand where your comment comes from. He's been in the news for years and I've seen support for him on countless social media threads and even on this forum in the past. Haven't heard his name in a couple years now, but he's the one who(along with others) occupied a federal wildlife refuge building. His idiocy ended up getting one of his compatriots killed.

I remember him now. I doubt he has $50 million. If he does then he is double idiot. Certainly not a hero.

Probably true, but then again, he's only 47 (48 in Sept)... lots of garnishment years ahead of him...

Also, he personally is "only" on the hook for 13.3 of that 50 million...

Here's the breakdown of who owes what

The jury’s verdict requires Bundy to pay the plaintiffs $6.2 million in compensatory damages and $6.15 million in punitive damages and Rodriguez to pay $7 million in compensatory damages and $6.5 million in punitive damages, according to Holland & Hart, the law firm, representing St. Luke’s. The remainder of the total $52.5 million in damages was assessed to the People’s Rights Network, Freedom Man Press and the Bundy campaign for governor.

Bundy for governor, huh? There's a bullet dodged... Their Lt. Governor is already a certified whackjob...

It takes some "whackness" to run for political office. I would never do it.

Well, as long as you have no sense of being humilliated, I think people have realized there really is no downside, even if you get nowhere near the final ballot, or winning...

You get publicity, donations, tax breaks, and a platform to spew whatever it is you spew..

And some even succeed somehow.... I give you, Congressman George Santos....

Yes he is a great example of the garbage that runs for office. For me publicity is a downside as is the platform. I could do with the donations but I can do without them as well. Politics is entertaining to watch from the outside but I won't ever get to the inside.
