This is at best a gimmick, and most likely for Trump. They can make all the claims they want about the write-in, but at this point it has no chance.

That would be my former principal who could bankrupt a lemonade stand in the middle of the Sahara.

If you think of it as a Venn Diagram, the circles for "People who are the most qualified to be president," and "People who don't want to run for president" are one and the same.

Have you followed any news about him except his run? He's smack dab in the middle of an 'episode'. He told attendees at his latest rally that his wife almost aborted his first child. He's claiming that the movie 'Get Out' was about him.

Mental health is a serious issue. He needs serious help - but he resists because he doesn't like the meds. Is this - seriously - someone you think should be inserted into the POTUS election process?

More straw men. When did I say they couldn't? What's so difficult about actually reading posts before responding? I'm a person with mental health issues and I've been successful. Why do you insist on making stuff like this up?

He seems to have a really good ear and sense for musical composition/producing, though I don't know about any kind of instrumental skill.

My dad has bipolar disorder, very severe, and largely had it under control with treatment and medication until his father passed away, so I can see how Kayne's mom's death with be a similar catalyst. And I think there is a pretty good body of research out there on artistic/creative mentality among bipolar patients (again, something true for my father as well); it is even why some of them resist medication -- out of fear that they will lose that part of themselves. I have a mental illness myself, depersonalization disorder, and although I advocate for treatment for all of those suffering from a mental illness, I think there is something to be said for a certain level of "neurodiversity" (not my word, or one I wold have chosen, but that's what psychiatrists and psychologists call it). Even with treatment and medication, you'll probably always have some symptoms, and it can be beneficial to understand the ways in which these symptoms are also your "superpowers." For a bipolar person, that may be their creativity and boldness; for my depersonalization, it means that I can keep my cool in threatening situations.

And I'm certainly not saying that each and every mental illness should be seen as a disqualifying factor for the presidency. I'd be amazed if anyone made it out of there without some kind of anxiety disorder, even if they didn't enter with one. And I wouldn't even say any of this about a bipolar person who's illness was well-managed. Even West's family acknowledged that his isn't well-managed, and that's why I say it should disqualify him. I've seen extremely successful people with bipolar disorder -- there's a reason why it is sometimes called "The CEO disease." But those people are managing their condition. Yes, they still have manic symptoms, which can actually aid their creativity and risk acceptance, but the disease overall is being managed. I've seen what a person with mismanaged bipolar disorder looks like; the manic episodes are no longer constructive and "creative," but downright terrifying and entrenched in delusions and deep paranoia. The risk acceptance becomes unhealthy, to the point that many become gambling addicts.

At my dad's best, he's creative, playful, and energetic. When things get bad, he's paranoid, self-destructive, and takes risks that endanger himself and his family. He's nearly wiped out his retirement savings and my mom's due to this. Hell, last time he was off his meds he came home from the grocery store into my sister's house while her kids were playing in the living room looking for my brother-in-law's guns because he swore the neighbors were trying to kill him. West has admitted that he has had similar paranoid outbursts.

Having someone with unmanaged bipolar disorder in the Oval Office would be a huge national security risk. West's illness is not well-managed. People with this degree of bipolar disorder are prone to extreme delusions, extreme paranoia, and extreme risk taking. These are not qualities we need leading the Executive branch.

I realize we probably don't disagree about much here, @Stuart Wolfe , but I'm hoping the additional information will provide some clarification for @struth

As far as race baiting goes, I'm sure that happens. I've seen it happen to black republicans before. In this thread, however, I was seeing just the opposite and was accused of bigotry just for recognizing a mental illness that West and his family acknowledge that he has.

Agreed. NOT a Chance. NONE. That he could even get close to 0.5% Nationwide.

Approx 136 Million Votes in were cast in 2016.

Let's say for the purposes hypothetical exercise, that we estimate 2020's Turnout at 140 Million.

Does anybody seriously think that it would be possible for Kanye to get 700,000 Write-In Votes?

Even Donald Trump (The Most Unreal Delusional Imbecile Ever Elected)
    KNOWS THAT WON'T HAPPEN.

Trump ALREADY KNOWS that he is going to lose.

His campaign is already working on the Strategy to Challenge the Results.

Kanye is a Complete Joke, and any "effect" (if any) that he will have on the election will be less significant than a fungus gnat belch in the rainforest.

    ^And Everybody KNOWS That.

Given that our corrupt bipartisan ruling political class is now fully exposed.
Previous political experience will be a handicap for any antiestablishment candidate.

Nobody has a free pass to the White House.
West will have and advantage over any professional politician. He will not have a "free pass".

If he pulls 1% of black votes off Biden, that's 1% fewer blacks voting for Biden. What's wrong with that?

Kanye is (and always has been) one of the Most Over-Praised (and OVER-RATED) "Entertainers" on the Planet.

This Utterly Delusional Stunt that he is engaging in is a Total Embarrassment (and reason for his family to file a petition to have him committed).

I absolutely believe that systemic racism exists and there is a great divide between racial groups. However, I don't understand how that specific comment is racist. The poster didn't say he is "bat ish crazy" because he's black. He said he is "bat ish crazy" (and he happens to be black).

Here's a list of nominations and awards Kanye has received.

So AJ, please tell the forum what your credentials are on the subject of music and how you're qualified to be a better judge than the people over at the Grammys, Billboard, BET, and the like.

I may have listened to a song or 2 (by accident) when flipping through channels or scanning the radio.

That said, in general terms, "Rap" really isn't my thing.

But, in cultural terms, to the extent that "Rap" is a thing, Kanye represents it's worst manifestation.

That said, I am a big fan of Miranda's "Hamilton".

Still, as far as Kanye's Idiotic (and Embarrassing) Presidential Stunt, I stand by my opinion that his family needs to intervene.

You are absolutely correct and it never ceases to amaze me that some people think that when you criticize a person of color for a personality flaw or bad behavior it is racist. It would actually be racist to hold back the criticism due to color.

This is why I'm a strong opponent of "political correctness". It does nothing to open the lines of communication between divided (for any reason, including race) people. All it does it make everyone self-conscious about what to say or not to say and that's impossible to know if you can't say what you really think and feel!
