You haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about; but if you insist on being completely ignorant and out of touch with reality, that's your business.

    Here's reality: http://www.politicalforum.com/curren...ml#post4331412

Leave CA alone to continue to destroy itself. We couldn't ask for a better situation. By the time liberals are finished with CA, it's residents will be BEGGING for change. (and not the Obama kind)

    Good God!
My grandmother is 70 and can change a sheet with no problem.
Is America becoming that big of a nation of wussies??
Its unbelievable that here was once a time when we were able to build houses, and farm, and make food without machinery and technology.
Whats next to come out of this state?

Who cares if its a fitter sheet? Its still a blasted sheet, isn't it? You still sleep on it, right? So whats the problem?

A fitted sheet is better than those other awful ones. A fitted sheet just pulls up and wraps around the corners of the mattress. Do you know how long it takes to put an ordinary sheet on the bed? Making sure its the same length on both sides before you tuck it in? Its a bloody nightmare.

This new law would make it easier on those changing the beds, and would be a lot quicker, too.

Can't believe the right wingers are whinging about the type of sheets they have on their beds! Good grief!

You must like having Government control every minor detailed aspect of business life huh? It's an inefficency and yes, as a hotel worker I can assure you, guests will not be happy with the sheet arrangements and they will complain.

I still don't see why I should care. It is still a sheet. It hasn't changed. You still sleep on it. Where is the problem?

This is absurdly silly, and one more piece of evidence to go on top of the mountains of evidence, that show that local government really does suck. It is stories like this, combined with the absurd laws they pass in religious states, the absurd laws they pass to control what people eat, where they eat, who they sleep with, where they can park, when they can park there, etc, etc, etc that makes one realize that advocates of local government are nuts!! People need to stop worrying about federal government so much, and start worrying more about busy-body local government, which is ultimately far more intrusive and attempts to control people's personal choices far more than federal government does!!

PS. Don't get me wrong, federal government isn't great, just better than local and state government in many instances!!

I can tell you have been gone for a while now!! Around here now, all the former Republicans and conservatives are "libertarians." Of course few of their positions on the issues actually changed, and they are still authoritarian on many issues, but after Bush and the Republicans screwed up so badly, they don't want to be associated with the brand!!

PS. Though I can't really talk, because I am no longer a Democrat either, because I don't want to be associated with that brand myself!! But I at least still consider myself a liberal, I haven't put on a new hat and tried to convince everyone I was completely different!!

    Is that a virtue?

By cry, do you mean actively work in opposition to exploitation? If so, is that a vice?

Well... crap... no wonder Jet had the reaction he did to me saying that...

Well, in that case, I think I'm going to avoid labeling myself until I can feel out how this place has redefined everything (the "libertarians" (read xenophobes and moral authoritarians) sure don't seem like libertarians to me). To be frank though I don't really care much for the titles and associations. I suppose older members like yourself will remember who I am and where I stand and those without so much legacy will have to figure it out.

The link 404'd, but I did bother to go fish out your post, not sure if this link works or not: http://www.politicalforum.com/curre...heets-beds-california-bill-2.html#post4331412

In either case your claim is that the purpose of the bill is to prevent injury and thus lower HC costs, if the costs to employers in terms of workman's comp are high enough then they ought to be on board with this as well, as clearly these injuries are work related.

My problem isn't with what type of sheets are used or the length of broom handles, but rather with the need to pass laws mandating the type sheets and the brooms. Why can't the collective bargaining process be thoroughly explored prior to invoking the power of legislation.

Well there are 900 bills waiting in California, re-education camps isn't so much of a stretch after seeing this, is it? Something has to be done with all that land that the eco-nuts have deemed unusable for business, farming, alternative energy and whatnot. If its packaged like traffic school it will be an easy sell.

It wouldn't be necessary if the company's played ball.

As someone who has a King Size bed, and uses fitted sheets...this whole thing is BS. I've never had to lift the mattress to put on clean sheets. Bunch of complainers...work is too haaaaaard.

I don't follow... collective bargaining could force their hand, if the maids went on strike the owners certainly aren't going to go change the sheets... though in this economy I'm willing to bet there are droves of people who'd be willing to change sheets regardless of the variety.

I personally think the issue is exaggerated, but that's irrelevant, if the price of workman's comp claims were high enough there wouldn't even be a need to negotiate, the hotel owners would take action. Which leads me to wonder, why aren't the claims being made? Either the injuries are exaggerated or the claims are being denied for some reason. This seems to be the real issue that may require legislation... not the type of sheets being used.
