Legal expert: Trump may be “overplaying his hand” — and it may get Judge Cannon "taken off the case"

If this Trump appointed judge tries to delay Trump's trial until after the 2024 election, she should be removed from this case?!! I don't understand why she did not recuse herself from this case from the beginning?!![IMG]

I would like to see Trump convicted on the documents case, Jan 6th insurrection, and the Georgia election interference case before the 2024 election?!! Can you see a convicted felon as president of the United States, what would the world think of us?!!

Former President Donald Trump's attorneys are set to appear in court before Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon in the Mar-a-Lago documents case on Tuesday, putting her in the spotlight after a series of pro-Trump rulings that were wiped out by an appeals court earlier in the investigation.

Cannon, who blocked the Justice Department from reviewing classified documents seized in last year's FBI search of Mar-a-Lago before her ruling was overturned, will preside over a pretrial conference to discuss the procedures for handling classified information in the case.

The arguments come as Trump pushes to delay the trial indefinitely, citing his presidential campaign, which the special counsel Jack Smith's strongly pushed back on last week.

Cannon is expected to face additional scrutiny after her earlier rulings drew criticism from legal experts that she was overly favoring the former president.

"She is not going to want to do anything but go by the book. The challenge is there has never been a book like this," former U.S. Attorney Kendall Coffey, who served on the advisory committee that reviewed Cannon's judicial application, told the Associated Press. Whatever happens, he added, "the eyes of the world are on her. She is in the middle of writing a chapter in history."

"Very telling": Experts say Trump filing to delay trial is a test of Judge Cannon's "favoritism"

Her ruling last September blocking parts of the documents probe and appointing a short-lived special master to review the materials was thrown out by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which called her order a "radical reordering of our caselaw limiting the federal courts' involvement in criminal investigations."

Tuesday's conference is focused on the Classified Information Procedures Act, a law that governs how classified information is handled in criminal prosecution. It is intended to give a defendant access to key evidence while preventing potential leaks of classified information.

Trump's lawyers and prosecutors are also locked in a battle over the schedule of the trial. The DOJ requested a December trial start date before Trump asked to push it back indefinitely.

Dave Aronberg, the Florida state attorney for Palm Beach County, told CNN that Trump's attempt to delay the trial may have backfired.

I don't understand why she didn't recuse herself. She has everything to lose, and nothing to win. If she moves the date trial, she will be criticized for yet another nonsensical pro-Trump decision. If she doesn't she will be accused by MAGAs of compensating for her previous mistake.

Delay is what Trump does best. He has a long history of delaying civil trials brought by unpaid contractors. After years of legal fees and constantly rescheduled or postponed trial dates, the contractors either give up, or settle for pennies on the dollar.

He's a grifter, from a family of grifters.

Should an Obama appointed judge, or a Biden appointed judge be forced to recuse?

An innocent person would want a speedy trial to prove their innocence. The only reason to delay is because you KNOW you're a criminal, and your hail-Mary is being elected President and pardoning yourself. MAGAs won't admit it, but they also know he's guilty.

Awww look folks. The same people who said NOTHING about all the years it took to investigate hunter now all of a sudden are the champions of speedy trials.
Don't they make the world's tastiest hypocrisy sandwiches or what?

Somebody being a hypocrite doesn't make them wrong or otherwise invalidate any point they may have.

Once again, I feel compelled to ask: what evidence exists against Hunter Biden (a man who holds no office and never will, making him irrelevant) that warrants the enormous cost of a federal investigation?

Please, link to evidence. I dare you.

Have they shown previous favour to the point of reprimand by a superior court?

If convicted T**** will lose the MAGAs and she'll score big. Yeah, some crazies will still be out there until he moves out of US jurisdiction, goes bankrupt and starts living of his PAC money.

The cases against Hunter almost never go to court. HIS is the extremely rare exception. He already paid the penalty for his taxes and the gun case only sees less than one in a thousand like cases ever in court. Over 999 out of 1000 similar see no time at all in court.
If, as you imply, he is getting special treatment then I agree, he's getting the harshest possible.

Possibly. A lot of judges have their rulings overturned.
