I saw this in another forum that I sometimes lurk in. I thought it was pretty neat so I copied it. Enjoy

Meanwhile all the anti-gun people have been able to do is stop some of our legislation - this year. We will be back. And in California you can't open carry an unloaded gun anymore.

There have also been a number of court victories but the person that posted this wasn't tracking those.

We pro-gun people are on a roll and kicking anti-gun butt.

A nice summary of how influence costs can impinge on government policy and harm individualism

This is good to see. I know a few other state's citizens are pushing their politicians to relax their gun laws as well.

Relaxed gun laws seem to be what a large number of citizens want, I don't know how anyone who believes in citizen rule can make an argument against these changes.

How many of the changes were the result of referendum?

    Directly the result: None

Indirectly the result: All of them. It is quite simple. People voted for candidates who promised more gun rights. Anti-gun candidates lost elections. The PEOPLE spoke.

Pressure groups imposing influence costs, characterised by increased coercion, is alien to individualism. Note of course that many right wingers, also characterised by the authoritarian personality, are followers of those pressure groups

Protecting rights is for everyone, not just 'right wingers'

After all one of our most sacred documents said 'We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal'....even if it took us a while to really live by them

The pressure groups involved desire to impose greater coercion. I know you fellows can have strange ideas over the constitution, but that's a goosestep too far!

You ignored the second part of my post. The people voted for the politicians that promised greater gun rights.

They didn't vote directly for the policy change. The comment was therefore quite wrong.

Referenda would of course see debate which would counteract the specific bias (and deliberate fibs) encouraged by pressure groups

Where did I state that the people voted for these policies? Quote exactly what part of the statement was wrong.

You stated "I don't know how anyone who believes in citizen rule can make an argument against these changes". Perhaps you didn't realise what you were typing?

Are you saying that just because we elect people to manage for us, the citizens don't actually rule in the US? I guess you believe the US is an oligarchy?

You haven't elected people according to gun control policy. 'Citizen rule' would refer to referendum. You made a basic error, confusing pressure group influence on politicians with something more clean

I have no 'strange views' of the Constitution, and I resent a foreigner telling ME the views I have are a 'goosestep too far'

You argue against rational gun control and therefore you're essentially supporting an attack on freedom. The only issue is whether you realise it. Admittedly, many of the pro-gun brigade do not
