Let's pretend for a moment that Paula Deen is a racist

She was a bank teller, and was robbed by an abusive black guy. She later reverted to her southern upbringing, and referred to him as a "N!" This whole thing reminds me of the PC climate that put The Kenyan in office!

Still with the Kenya stuff? Really? In for a penny, in for a pound I suppose.

But you're right, Food Network should have taken a stand against all this PC stuff. Afterall, who else but Food Network would we expect to be on the forefront of controversial politics.

The thread assumes she is racist and goes from there.

I really love parts of her personality that I have seen. As a human being I have compassion for her... but those certain kinds of things revealed about her recently accompany consequences that no one must bear for her.

I really do feel sorry for Ms. Deen; she is a victim of this society's racist-baggage as many are. Whether or not one has been on the receiving end of such or had that racism 'instilled' within them via their upbringing and cultural experiences, that suffering of ALL it touches is exactly WHY I despise it so much. :(

I'm sure that Ms. Deen is as human inside are the rest of us, and it is sad that we haven't dealt well-enough with racism that she cannot better understood and/or accepted at this point in American history. But the sad thing, is that she's just another indicator that 'we' have a very long way to go as it relates to racism and getting the proper handle on things in 'America'.

I was just watching watching "Morning Joe". Joe Scarborough and Al Sharpton were discussing the Supreme Court's decision on the Voters Rights Act (section 5), and it was clear to me that Mr. Scarborough doesn't understand racism, nor how it must be combated. His view, while not racist per se, showed that he does not understand the nitty-gritty of the situation, down where many minorities are affected (directly, on voting day). He seemed to express an obliviousness to what is REALLY going on, and as educated and eloquent as Scarborough is sometimes... he almost seemed to be saying what someone wanted him to say, rather than relating what is fairly obvious to most Americans (especially those minorities/whites who literally fought for those rights).

Even so, I think that the 'effects' of racism which likely affected Scarborough's views and expression thereof, are the same ones which affect basically good people like Paul Deen; it is the LEGACY EFFECTS of racism in this society... that for many many reasons have NOT been properly dealt with (over time). Some like to say that "slavery ended" a long time ago... but they don't realize HOW embedded that cancer still is in the makeup or our society. The kinds of things I heard about Paula Deen and the perspectives of Joe Scarborough just this morning, are essentially cancerous lumps (large/small)... found upon or within the BODY of America.

That cancer of racism needs to be treated; it is costly and destructive. And most importantly, it is in EVERY AMERICAN'S INTEREST to rid this nation of as much of it as possible; otherwise it will find a way to devour us all. Yes, it's more subtle than just calling someone a racial epithet, but it is down underneath ROLLING through America's blood. And God knows we're spilled enough of that same blood in our soil over the same DISEASE.

Again, whether we're on the 'receiving' end of or 'delivering' that racism, it is damaging and destructive to all of us as human beings.

Hell, we shouldn't even have a problem dealing with what Paula Deen said in the 1980's, nor have to worry about why Scarborough cannot see more clearly than he obviously does; and the Voters Rights Act should not be a worry today either... but the REALITY is that racism is still directly affecting many in present-day America; this nation is NOT 'well'... that CANCER of racism is nowhere near "remission". :(

Yet if people DECIDE to work at implementing a cure we WILL know true 'relief' sooner than later.

Yes, the rampant racism among blacks needs to be decreased as racism everywhere needs to be decreased.
