Today HRC announced its support for an ethics complaint with the Judicial Inquiry Commission of Alabama seeking the removal of Chief Justice Roy Moore from the state supreme court for violating the obligations of his office. Chief Justice Roy Moore is lawlessly disregarding the binding ruling of a federal judge, and hes encouraging other statewide officeholders to do the same, said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. Moores personal opinions are not at issue here. As a lawyer and as a judge, he has an obligation to follow the law. William A. Jacobson of the blog Legal Insurrection appeared to have been the first to notice that Carson was among those listed on what he called the SPLC's "'Extremist' watch lists." He wrote Friday that "the Southern Poverty Law Center ceased long ago to be a neutral source of information." There were two issues with Jacobson's blog post, however: the SPLC does not maintain "watch lists," and Carson's profile had been live in the organization's "Extremist Files" for months. SPLC spokesman Mark Potok told TPM on Monday that including Carson in the organization's "extremist files" isn't tantamount to following the potential presidential contender around in fear that he is plotting to blow up a federal building. I've been saying for a long time now that hatred and bigotry is not some much about outrage concerning a particular issue like same sex marriage or immigration. It is more basic than that.. It's about hate. The need to hate someone or something. While the Klan has historically been an equal opportunity hater-hating just about everyone who is not a while, non Catholic Christian, and straight, most anti gay bigots are serial haters. I'm convinced that decades ago they would have been targeting blacks. However, since they can't easily find support for that anymore, they target gays and immigrants. And now we have this. You and the Klan were made for each other.
