Is lobbying good or bad? Is lobbying another name of bribery? Have we legalized bribery in the form of lobbying? Time and again, these questions come in our mind. Definitely, there is no clear cut answer to these questions. We can't make one answer to all the questions. Recently, Illinois representative Costello made the news. He served almost 24 years in the congress. He was on the committee which oversees railroad, highways and aviation. The Chicago Sun Times have collected some details regarding the money made through lobbying: Boeing company is paying him $ 10,000 a month, initially paid him 90,000;The Scott Air Forceirforce Base paying him $ 25,000 a month;Madison county transit district paying $ 7000 a month; Illinois Railroad association paid him $ 60,000;Leadership Council of Southwest Illinois paid him for $450,000 for 18 months;Veoloia environment services $60,000 for 5 months. These are some of the details of the charges for his connections. In 2013, one year out of office he made 200,000 a year as a fee, he is also drawing 60,000 federal pension and 19,000 state pension. The former Congressman definitely worked hard and he also deserves a good compensation for his services. But the question is, is this lucrative amount justifiable? http://politics.suntimes.com/articl...essman-cashing-connections/sat-05242014-942pm
Lobbying itself is fine, but when corporate person-hood was created in the United States in 1819 that is when it became bastardized. So in conclusion, lobbying = good. Corporate person hood = bad.
The entire purpose of a corporation is to make a much much as possible. Lobbyists throw as much money as possible towards a candidate or representative. So, in conclusion, money is all that is supposed to matter?
Lobbying is just bribery. I don't understand why it's even called lobbying, except that calling it that instead of calling it what it really is makes it seem legal.
