Hey guys, looking for a little feed back options!

I had already owned the iPad 2 and because I felt like a total tool for owning it, I gave it to my mother. I have sat for about a year letting tables come out, and now feel it is the time to grab another one. I have done a little research, and Understand due to my new-found hatred for Apple, I am confused on what product will serve me well.

Any opinions and feedback would be lovely. And thank you.

My best advice is what I own... not that they are cool because I own them... but based on my research.

You would be more interested in the second one. The first is a weirdo, and a bit outdated... but is my main use tablet.

The galaxy tablets are great utilitarian tablets. As are the Nexus 7s. I am partial to the Asus Transformers due to their weight, durability, and performance.

I was looking at the Nexus 7 only because of its price. Its very cheap and has the same basic qualities as some of the bigger and more expensive tablets. Galaxies are veeeery nice. So I will for sure be looking at those. I am one of those picky buyers. I look at things about 4 or 5 times before buying them. I will check it out though!

I do not believe you will find yourself wanting for more with the Nexus7. I would expect that it would make you quite happy, understanding it's limitations. It is probably your best bet IMO.

You can even get refurbished ones (and purchase an extended warranty) for even cheaper.

Hmmm... that was 30 dollars cheaper... just go new.

I am spoiled on the 10" screens.

And more usable. Holy balls, the Windows 8/RT Metro UI is horrific. I will admit that I've never used it on a tablet/touch device - it may be halfway decent in that context. However, I just recently got a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I tried to use it, honestly, for about 2 hours. Then I said, "screw this", wiped the drive and installed trusty Windows 7.

Android is a great OS, and I would highly recommend avoiding Windows 8/RT like the plague. Yes of course, this is my subjective opinion - but it's a good one. ;)

(I would also prefer to use some flavor of Linux as my main OS, but alas, my gaming habits do not allow it.)

I don't know, if he is willing to hand mom a new Ipad, he's got some green to burn. IDK if you think the ipad is "toolish" I start to think you aren't really wanting a tablet. ipad is one of the best out there. Tablets are great at consuming information, maybe he needs a more all in one approach like the Surface ?

I was trying to find an alternative reason to disagree with you so we did not disseminate into a hate on Windows 8 interface debate.

I'm not a Windows user, so I guess I shouldn't recommend the product, tho I think it's pedestrian and good for many folks.

Trust me... I would have lead the charge.

I can only recommend for someone who is considering a surface... go try and use it... then use an android.

Ick. I want nothing to do with Windows 8. I had the RT on my phone and it bothered me enough for me to take it back. Its a beautiful looking program, but I would rather stick with Androids user friendly OS. Plus I don't think the RT will really keep up. It may go the same way the HP OS went. Though I do like the way the Microsoft Surface looks, its a bit over priced for what it has.

I decided this morning to Order the Galaxy Tab 2. Seemed a good choice.
Ctrl I did look up the Asus eee Slider but their stock was limited and the one they had had a low storage. I could always invest in a attachable keyboard later if I intend on using it for anything work related. It was a nice looking Tab though.

Thank you all for your suggestions :)

Bought my 7 year old niece and 7 year old daughter both Nexus 7' for Christmas. Awesome devices, and way cheaper than the IPADs I'd previously bought for the sons.

Plan on buying one myself, just debating between 7 and 10
