This is even a little bit surprising. New Jersey is probably the state in the US with the toughest policies. NJ Senate Sessions on Hold as Truck Driver Who Was Denied Gun Permit Stuns Democrats (msn.com) It looks like a man who was a former truck driver for 25 years, and has no former political experience, and who almost didn't spend any money for his election campaign, is going to win a senate election over a long-term Democratic incumbent who has held the position of President of the state Senate longer than anyone else in the state's history. Edward Durr appears poised to defeat Steve Sweeney. Durr said he decided to run for Sweeney's state Senate seat in 2021 by anger over being denied a concealed carry gun permit, something that has apparently garnered sympathy from voters in his district. "I was told flat-out by the local sheriff, 'Don't even bother.' And that kind of angered me," said Durr. "I've never been arrested and I couldn't get a concealed carry? ... That really angered me, so I looked into what can you do to get into politics." Durr had previously ran an unsuccessful campaign for a New Jersey General Assembly seat in 2019. So why would voters vote for someone with no experience in politics? Either they are tired of Democrats, incumbent Sweeney has finally grown to become very unpopular, or the voters are sending a message that they do not approve of the state denying gun carry permits. Probably there may be a combination of all three here, but the last reason seems the likely the most important of them. Durr also comes across as a tough but humble working class guy, not an elite, and that probably appeals to people in many parts of New Jersey.
The democrats are soooooo screwed in the midterms. If they manage to pass any of the BBB plan, there will be a red tsunami next November.
