LSU Student Reportedly Plans to Burn American Flag in Peaceful Campus Protest

A student at Louisiana State University reportedly is planning to burn an American flag on campus Wednesday as part of a peaceful protest, the student newspaper reports.

The flag-burning comes nearly a week after police charged another student, Isaac Eslava, with taking the American flag at the campus' historic War Memorial and burning it hours after news of Usama bin Laden’s killing by U.S. Navy SEALs.

The 10-by-15 flag flew atop a 102-foot pole 24 hours a day at the campus and honors all the war dead from LSU. Police said there was about $7,530 worth of damage at the memorial and called it very "coincidental" that the event took place so soon after bin Laden's death.

But, but, this will cause outrage and hurt people's feelings. Perhaps, he should post a $100,000 peace bond?

Imagine finding out this was one of your kids? Ungrateful little punk! These hideous people have absolutely no clue what a luxury it is to live in this country. The appreciate nothing, and it comes back to the parents just about everytime...shame on them!

"Police say it was "coincidental" that the event took place so soon after bin Laden's death"

I don't know who's worse in that town, the lunatic traitor burning the flag or the cop covering-up the reason..."coincidental" MY ASS! This is what the other liberal pieces of (*)(*)(*)(*) do when another does something that their is no excuse for, they cover it up so that Saint Obama look doesn't bad.

As long as he owns the flag, good luck to him. He can do what he wants.

However, I wouldn't support the destruction of other people's property.

I would argue that the symbolism of the flag makes it such that it belongs to everyone.

    I would first laugh.

Then I would point out how absolutely ridiculous that statement is. "Symbolism", ... please.

If he buys a flag, with his own money, it belongs to him and no one else.

He can do what he likes with it (within fire regulations etc.).

Sure, he can do what he wants with it, and someone could punch him in the nose for it.

    Insults have consequences.

Violence, in response to someone burning their own property.

Violence, in response to an insult.

    How very mature.

    This says a lot.

So what do you call it when muslims get their panties in a wad over the burning of the Koran or a cartoon of Mohamed?

    1. The topic of this thread isn't Muslims. Why do you feel the need to deflect?

    2. If the Muslims you refer to respond with violence, I would call it a disgusting, immature overreaction.

It's not deflecting it's comparing, but you knew that, nice deflection.

Who cares? If you want to burn a flag, go buy one and burn it. This country is becoming nothing but a bunch of whiners looking to be offended and outraged over any little thing. If your biggest worry today is some guy buring a piece of cloth your life is pretty good. So shut up.

Hard not to notice the absence of a few lefties in this thread....

who couldn't wait to tip-toe around the 1st Amendment to condemn the Florida pastors burning of another 'privately owned' symbol.

That's what happens when one has zero core principles..... saddled only with the intellectually dishonest duplicity required to advance agenda.

'Comparing' what? Religion wasn't mentioned before you decided to throw it in the mix.

It was deflection, pure and ... extremely simple.

I, on the other hand, deflected nothing: I answered your question directly and honestly.

    Indeed.

Folks seem to be giving the guy the attention he craves. He wants to provoke a reaction and you folks are rising to the bait.

That being said, I could not possibly care any less what he does with his property. If he wants to wear it as a diaper, it's his to do it and it only affects you if you let it.

Really? You advocate violence in response to a peaceful protest?

Says a lot. An Awful lot.

Comparing reactions, did I really have to explain it? Guess I gave you more credit than you deserved.

Actually, wouldn't the pathetic part be the student burning the flag and disgracing all the countrymen that bled for his ability to be free?

Wouldn't the "country of whiners" part be on this student who has nothing better to do then burn a flag in his spare time?

I'm guessing the store owner would disagree when you tried to take one of "our" flags off the shelf and walk out.

They would only be "disgraced" if he weren't allowed to do it. Freedom doesn't have anything to do with pieces of cloth made in China.

He's not whining. He may have too much time on his hands. But he's clearly not the one whining like a little girl.

I am focused, you are the one who couldn't tell the difference between a comparison and a deflection.
