A man got swallowed by a whale, and then the whale rose to the surface and spat the man out, tossing him out above the water.

Michael Packard was diving off the coast of Provincetown, Massachusetts, Friday, when a humpback whale caught him unaware.
"I got down to about 45 feet of water, and all of a sudden I just felt this huge bump, and everything went dark"
"And then I realized, 'Oh, my God, I'm in a whale's mouth. I'm in a whale's mouth, and he's trying to swallow me.'"
"I thought to myself, 'OK, this is it. I'm going to die.' And I thought about my kids and my wife," he said. "There was no getting out of there."
After what Packard estimated to be about 30 seconds in the mammal's mandibles, he said the whale surfaced quickly and spat him out.
"All of a sudden he went up to the surface and just erupted and started shaking his head," Packard said. "I just got thrown in the air, and landed in the water and I was free and I just floated there."
Packard was pulled out of the water by a crewmate, rushed ashore, and taken to a nearby hospital. In the end, Packard said, he was "all bruised up," but whole.

For those who say the story of Jonah is unbelievable because of the part about a whale swallowing a man.

Now how could Jonah have enough air to breathe that long?
Well, here is a science fact to consider: The ambient pressure increases about one atmosphere for every 10 meters of water depth. That means there's more air per given volume.

Humpback whales usually dive to about 200 meters depth for intervals of about 30 minutes. If the pressure is 20 times higher, that's going to mean there can be 20 times more oxygen in a given area compared to what it is at sea level. And this air will get replenished about every half hour. Humans don't use very much oxygen if they are lying still.

Going from 45 feed down to surface in 30 seconds, wonder if he got decompression sickness, that is a very fast ascent

"She added that Packard was unlikely to have been swallowed, as, despite their massive mouths, their throats aren't large enough for a person to fit through."

so not actually swallowed, just in the whales mouth, but still dangerous, especially rising to the surface that fast

exactly, and they did not have tanks of air back then that would last 3 days, and a whale rising and falling every 30 min would definitely cause the bends if they did

now some say the story was not really religious, and the whale was actually a spaceship and that was what he entered, thus supporting ancient Aliens

Now, how did God give the story to ever wrote it down? Because He's God and can. I'm sure that since He organized this entire universe, he would figure out how to keep Jonah alive long enough to teach Jonah the lessons Jonah needed. 3 days? No problem. Probably kept the whale on the surface for 3 days.

If it was a real historical account, then presumably the story must have come from either Jonah himself, or the people of Nineveh, who combined together their accounts with stories the travelers on the boat had spread around. The story might have come from Jonah and then been verified by accounts of outside parties, collaborating his story. In those times, historical narrations commonly did not include where exactly the information came from.
It's also possible that the story may have been overall mostly true, but then a writer projected his own imaginations and inventions on the private narrations of Jonah with God.

The original Jonah text doesn't even call it a whale, but rather: dag gadol (דג גדול), which literally means "great fish"
    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetus_(mythology)#Jonah's_"great_fish"

It's no more a historical event than Genesis was.
