    In the Southern Hemisphere, the ice cover around Antarctica gradually expands from March to October each year. During this time the total ice area increases by 6 times to become larger than Russia. The sea ice then retreats at a faster pace, most dramatically around December, when Antarctica experiences constant daylight.

    New research led by the University of Washington explains why the ice retreats so quickly: Unlike other aspects of its behavior, Antarctic sea ice is just following simple rules of physics.

    What do you think of the statistic given by Immanuel Velikovsky in one of his books that there may have been as many as 171 major Magnetic Polar Shifts over the past five million or so years of earth's history?

    Apparently not since oceans have risen. You can debate whether or not its cause by man, or natural cycle, but the fact remains that oceans have risen.

    But when you look at the rather massive numbers regarding the melting of ice off the world's glaciers plus the cracking and sliding of ice off the LAND BASED Greenland Ice Pack you can easily see that ocean level rise would have been much greater if it were not for the amount of ice being ADDED to most of Antarctica.

    Its a problem in many places, because places a flooding (like Miami), and seawalls need to be raised (like Ft Lauderdale).

    No, it is not a problem since it was humans who start cities in flood zones in the first place such as Houston, New Orleans, Miami, Venice and many more thus the fault is with us.

    Meanwhile the current sea level is actually around 2 meters lower that it was a few hundred years to thousands of years ago.

    Why do you think we need to raise sea walls in Ft Lauderdale? Its because the water is higher than before. Trying to say "you should have built in the mountains" doesn't remove the fact that the water is rising. Its rising, and we need to deal with it.

    Never denied the sea level is rising, never said we should build it in the mountains thus your entire argument fails.

    You ignored that cities have been going underwaters for THOUSANDS of years, yet we continue to start cities right at the edge of ocean waters and in swampy land near the oceans thus repeats the SAME problem all over again, maybe because of mankind's arrogance and dismissal of the power of Earths geological process is the real problem.

    Why don't you run this by the city government of New Orleans because it is a fact of history that the residents of that city built where they did........

    because white people like my ancestors and distract relatives in the USA .......

    ... did NOT want to build their homes there in an obvious flood zone.

    The exact circumstances of the building of homes in New Orleans was one where the home owners there did not have very many other options available to them!

    My main point is that investment in deliberately turning deserts green is a win, win, win, win, win, win, win scenario for HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE who happen to be living on real estate that is subject to the threat of rising ocean levels.

    I am hoping to get M. P. and Minister of Immigration Mr. Sean Fraser as well as M. P. Iqra Khalid interested in this general topic because it could become a significant factor in film production in both Central - Nova, N. S., as well as in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

    Jack Hays... am I incorrect to be concerned about the threat of rising ocean levels?

    Am I an idiot to be thinking that the town of Truro Nova Scotia... and the city of Moncton New Brunswick.... are in the position of the proverbial canary in a coal mine when it comes to the threat of rising ocean levels?

    If average ocean levels were to rise by ten centimeters.... .would
    the multiplier effect of the geography of the Bay of Fundy continue?

    The fact that the Bay of Fundy funnels tidal waters plus......
    it is over 170 miles long, (274 kms), it produces high tide level that are tenX to fifteenX over the difference in tidal waters where I live.

    So... could high tide levels near TRuro, N. S. to Moncton, N. B. be up by a meter or more if average ocean levels were to rise by ten centimeters?

    Exactly... .but the structure of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet
    makes it especially vulnerable to rapid collapse....... rapid cracking and sliding of ice into the ocean....
