In terms of current grammar issues among young adults today, I do blame it on our public schools. It was the fashion during the late 80s and 90s to completely dump teaching grammar in elementary schools in an effort to foster more creativity. The idea was that students hated writing because they were so confused by all these frustrating grammar rules. People said they'd pick up grammar naturally through reading.

Of course, what was never considered is that most people hate reading, too, and kids especially aren't going to analyze the grammar of a short story on their own. Then these kids turn to teenagers and we high school teachers don't know what to do with them. We'd like to take time out to teach them grammar, but it's technically not in our curriculum, and we're under huge pressure to complete the work this actually is in our curriculum.

There was a study to find the IQ of your average surfer. Taking in consideration that 50% of the surfers surveyed dropped out of high school, the IQ of your part time surfer ranged between 55-80. Mind you, a lot higher than what I would have expected, but interesting and revealing nonetheless. Oh yeah...Surf's 'UP', are you 'UP' for it? :omg:

Being the extreme liberal that you are, do you think its a mistake, and thus dumb for libs to continue attacking the Tea Party by calling them racist?

I do believe in calling a spade a spade.
I do hope that answers your question.

Do you think that avatar flip-flops are a sign of insecurity?

Then it wouldn't be too difficult for you to give us proof of how a group of middle aged black and white Republicans/Democraps/Centrists/Moderates/Evangelicals/ConstitutionalistsModerates/Libertarians who have as their primary goal to uphold the traditions of their Tea Party ancestors to lower or eliminate taxes--that they are indeed this racist group of people.

No,,,I was not being sarcastic. I am just adding some humor to a interesting point you brought up. I do believe there are many that do feel comfortable at being a bit sloppy and care free when they post, I try and do a fair job but I do not make it a responsibility of sorts.
I really do not find fault with many of the posts, at least not to the point of objection or being actually bothered by it. I enjoy the different people, and since we can not meet them their writing gives you some type of a clue...

I used to work in a very poor neighborhood, when you walked down Main Street there were many odors in the air from all the different foods...Some fantastic,,,others, not so much...LOL However it was always different and exciting. I use to think how it was so wonderfully original, and what a sin it would be if it ever changed...
That is how I look at our posters....not smelly, just different...LOL

That's charming, but grammar is used to communicate ideas clearly so that others can actually understand what you meant to say.
Imagine walking down your lovely street and smelling carrion from an open door. If you're hungry, you would likely not stop there to eat (unless you're a dog- but I digress), even though they might be selling tasty pizza.
    That's bad for business.
So if you want to influence people to your point of view, it's useful not to come off sounding like a cretin.

    That is a big problem.

If I say, "Its prophet was a diseased psychopathic inhuman monster that ascended to be frozen on the Event Horizon of Hell for a King of the Hill abomination on the Temple Mount," I am not calling "the Prophet Mohammed an 'abomination.'" It should be obvious to anyone but a moron that if he ascended to be frozen on the event horizon of hell he is not an abomination on the Temple Mount.

If I say, "It needs killing," and the word "it" is defined in context of the post by, "It shoves a salami bomb up its Sodomite butt," I did not "state that the religion of Islam needs to be destroyed." It should be obvious I am talking about terrorists like underwear bombers or those who have a rock, chewing gum, and the thin wire filament up their butt at LAX, or maybe in a topic about Israel I am talking about Hamas and not Islam.

None of us are perfect, and many of us play around experimenting with long sentences like in "Gulliver's Travels"; sometimes that comes in handy if one does not want to debate someone whose eyes will glass over, or those who see the word "market" for instance and they insert "free" in front of it, which wastes time in responding to them; when you just want to debate someone who can read the difference between "social contract" and "contract," and you cannot say anything about the person not being able to read, a long sentence like Article I Section 8 of the Constitution, where none of it is separated goes a long way to keeping one safe. And many times if one just puts some sentences well separated but depending upon context, like in the first example, where a prominent key word is needed for context, one still has to deal with the knee-jerk illiterates with friends thanking them for every idiot response. Sometimes confronting people is necessary, but usually it goes in one ear and out the other as they make no attempt to stop baiting people with their illiterate responses.

I have to work hard at when to use "an" and "a," but then again I went to an Open Campus for drug addicts and pregnant women and I had the ceiling fall on my head during the 2004 hurricanes.

Anyway, any help you can give would be appreciated. I am still trying to learn how to read and write my native language.

Let me put it another way. I have been a musician for over 40 years, played professionally for most of those years. It kills me when people here say Rap is great music,,it's not it stinks. Now,,no doubt people can enjoy different things, but musically it stinks. It is simplistic, has very little structure and requires little to no talent to play. The best comparison I and other musicians can come up with is Nursery rhymes, and most of those require more skill.

So,,it is very possible their grammar is to you what rap is to me....Thing is, many do not care...and most times they CAN understand what they are saying....:)

Best I can do for you, and neither will change....[Is neither correct?]

Completely agree.... One of the reasons that I became an engineer is that even all those years ago... I saw a trend forming. One in which the world grows more and more technologically advanced, yet the number of people that understand how it all works continues to decrease. This means my value, and the salary that I can earn will continue to rise. As opposed to people that got into web page design in the early 90's making 100k+, and now are underbid by the average HS student....

Exactly, Brewskier... I owe you a rep.

Isn't it interesting liberals are the only ones who seem to place so much importance on proper grammar & spelling? They may be trolls, but by golly they're 'proper' trolls, huh?

    ROFLMAO

If you hadn't mentioned talk radio, you might have a point. In fact, the topic is a good one and it's too bad you decided to ridicule your students to get their attention. Makes me wonder about your teaching style.

Makes me wonder about your comprehension skills if this is the sort of nonsense that you choose to say about the op.
Obviously, partisan ranting and personal insults trump everything else in your little world.

In response to that I am going to attack those (*)(*)(*)(*) "liberal" bleeding heart conservatives, so understanding of improper grammar and spelling; that's "liberal" as in Tanner's Correct English "my house is a 'castle.'"
