WASHINGTON -- Friday's news of yet another month of tepid job growth in April provided Mitt Romney with an opening both to criticize the president's policies and to paint a picture for what a more effective recovery would be.

"We should be seeing numbers in the 500,000 jobs per month," the former Massachusetts Governor said on "Fox & Friends." "This is way, way, way off from what should happen in a normal recovery."

Half a million jobs a month is certainly an ambitious goal. But it's an arbitrary one as well. During George W. Bush's presidency, there was never a single month in which job growth topped 400,000, let alone 500,000, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, as Think Progress pointed out, "there have only been 16 months since 1939" in which the economy added half a million jobs in one month

Joe Biden made a similar claim in 2010, saying that type of growth could be expected soon... a claim he later admitted was a low moment (even for his gaffe history).

Perhaps he meant this in some other format... so I'm willing to extend to him the benefit of the doubt. I look forward to a pretty important response from his campaign managers (or him) on an issue he's claimed to have the serious knowledge of... so much that he can turn the economy around.

The bottom line is that Obama is a total failure. Romney most certainly has to be better.

Besides, "Better A Morman Than A Muslim!"

There have only been 5 months with 500,000+ in job growth since 1970. Two under Jimmy Carter, one under Ronald Reagan, one under Bill Clinton and one under Barak Obama. My source, the WSJ

So Mittens if full of it, as usual. He wants to return to the policies that gave us the smallest job growth since WWII, and return to the Foreign Policy of GWB. No jobs and more wars ... why would anyone want to return to those old days?

Mitt hopes his supporters will forget what he said before and remember what he's telling them now ...
