Mitt Romney receives Profile in Courage Award for 2020 impeachment vote
It's very telling in our society when doing the right thing is considered courageous. Shouldn't we all be doing the right thing no matter what?

    What do you think?

I think it is hilarious. I got a serious chuckle from it.

ROFL! What a joke... that award means nothing. It's right up there with Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize and Andrew Cuomo's Emmy.

I had to compare past winners.

Past Winners | Profile in Courage Award

It's a mixed list, mostly people unknown to me. At first glance, it looks biased toward Democrats, though I see John McCain.

Yes, we should be doing the right thing, but this appears to be exactly as the honor was intended.

    This is what explains it:

...bestowed upon public figures who risk their careers by embracing unpopular positions for the greater good.

So all the Democrats who voted not to remove Bill Clinton lacked any courage?

Romney’s senate seat in Utah was safe regardless how he voted and he knew it. He had some pretty nasty fights with Trump. No real courage needed, just good old revenge. Good luck finding any pol with a spine.

Not sure he deserved an award over it, but it's definitely a credit to his name that he chose a higher standard than just pure political tribalism like the rest of the Republicans who voted against it. Both times that Trump was impeached, he was guilty of what he was impeached for. With the Ukraine impeachment, it's a valid discussion over whether what he did rose to the level of requiring impeachment. Censure would have been acceptable but the ethically challenged Republicans don't tend to hold themselves to the same standard as they hold others to. To be fair, that's a common occurrence in politics, so it's hardly limited to Republicans. But this specific time, they sold out their integrity and their ethics in order to avoid angering a megalomaniacal buffoon.

I agree his senate seat is safe but I am guessing they are referring to his presidential aspirations. There is no chance now is there was any left in the first place.

The way the Republican Party is now , Romney wouldn’t have a chance to make it through the primaries., I actually think he would have a chance in the general , but the base, and they’re the ones that vote in primaries wants no part of him. The Republican Party civil war between Trump and those that are done with his drama render the party IMO futile for now.

No, the "wokadile swamp creatures" are in limbo. The Marxist Dems have taken over the establishment Dems, and there is no place for them.

The way ROMNEY is now he wouldn't make it through a primary. I voted for him the first time. He has turned vindictive over his fight with Trump and was willing to turn his back on the Republican party and conservatism. I wouldn't vote for him again because of him not the Republicans.

Nonsense. He may be one of the few republicans left in that sewer of cowards that have their heads stuck so far up trump’s ass it’s embarrassing.
The trumplican party has nothing to do with principled conservatism.
It’s become a seditious mob dedicated to worshiping a malignant narcissist.
They are now trying to pass a slew of Jim Crow laws to deny voters their right to vote.

I think he did nothing courageous. If you want to find courage, it is exhibited by people who follow their convictions knowing they will be slandered and targeted by the media, knowing they stand alone, knowing that they are putting themselves and their families at risk of ruin and knowing that they most likely will not get an award celebrating them. That is true courage.

Susan Collins...a liberal Democrat wannabe showed courage when she stood with Kavanaugh. She went against her best interests on principle and against powerful forces wanting to destroy her career. She should get the award.

Trump should get the award. He stood alone in the swamp of corrupt DC.

Romney was enjoying every minute of his betrayel and knew it would lead to good things. A reward for instance.

    Very telling about both parties.

But it is just your opinion on whether it was the "right thing". Particularly since Dems had to lie and ignore the history of their own rhetoric just to bring forth their case.

I took Romney to be a two-faced snake in the grass when he was Governor of Massachusetts, and it's no mystery WHY he high-tailed it to Utah, he's now safe among his own. Yeah, take that any way you please, NO apologies.

The MSM definition of "speaking truth to power". Doing exactly what the elite billionaire class and their MSM puppets tell you to do. Standing with the people who voted for you against the corrupt establishment is cowardice.

That someone would get an award for a senatorial vote. Talk about partisanship!

Yes, I agree. Now if only there was such an example to point to..........

In the famous words of Churchill, Romney has much to be humble about.

It was a wrong turn for our country when Romney was not elected President in 2012.
