hmmmmm so the money which is not paid due to yet another GM subsidy just grows on the magical Obama money tree and gets to the treasury OK, got it
$8000 for a battery charger? Typical GM rip-off. The Volt is very over-priced, like most automobiles. There are companies manufacturing electric cars for $10-20,000. Their problem is they can't get their vehicles approved for use on public roads, because of laws requiring them to destroy a large number of vehicles in crash tests. The only place you can drive these cars is places like golf courses, gated communities, and university campuses that have their own private road. If you want a vehicle that's street-legal, there are quiet a few companies that will convert gasoline-engine vehicles to electric. There are few restrictions when modifying an existing vehicle, as long as the finished product is still road-worthy.
When Joe pays $10,000 less in taxes than he owes... other people pay $10,000 more (or $10,000 get's added to out collective debt).
No one pays more because of a tax credit. You're complaining about adding to the debt? What about Romney only paying 14% when you pay 35%? I thought the right wanted tax breaks. Apparently only when they don't or when billionaires get them.
So let's get this straight. No rightie on the forum wants a tax credit? To be able to afford something because they'll pay less taxes? No energy credits? No credits because they can treat their SUV's as a trunk and business expense? No tax credits? Okey, dokey.
We don't pay the debt in percentages, we pay it in dollars. Rephrase your question in dollars and I'll try and answer it (and you might want to be cautious about making assumptions on other people's effective tax rates). Our federal government spent $3.6T to provide the same rights and privileges to 300 million citizens. Any family that paid more than $12,000 per person in federal taxes, paid for what they received. It's shameful that we have to ask them to pay more. Those who can't afford to pay for what they received, should be calling on our representatives to provide a government they can afford. Most of us can't afford a government that tosses out $10,000 credits to folks just cause they bought a new car.
I also want a pony. Are you seriously suggesting that just because folks want something, the government should provide it?

What - they bumped this absolute dumb ass subsidy up even farther? 'The average income of the Chevy Volts buyers is $170,000 per year, according to General Motors CEO Dan Akerson.' http://news.yahoo.com/obama-hikes-subsidy-wealthy-electric-car-buyers-191058674.html So lower-middle class Americans are forking over their hard earned money so wealthy Americans can buy a Volt (or some other dumbass, over-priced hybrid) cheaper? This is absolutely ridiculous. Why don't they just give one to every new driver when they get their license?
Your ignoring the stated intention of liberals to raise the price of gasoline to the point that only Al Gore and Michael Moore will be able to afford gasoline. It's hard to believe that cars became standard over horse-drawn wagons without a government subsidy. Color television came into use and triumphed voer black-and-white televisions with a government mandate and taxpayer-funded subsidies. Hard to believe isn't it.
I know several people who make over $170K/yr. and none of them is stupid enough to buy a Volt. There's nothing wrong with an electric car, per se, but it needs to be designed to run well, for long distances, over many different kinds of terrain and conditions. I still say that natural gas and hydrogen are the areas we need to concentrate for our needs in the next fifty years -- not some half-assed, hippie-dip brain fart like the Volt....
I agree completely! The electric car is a leftist wet dream that is doomed to failure because of the limits of the battery. And faster than you can say incinerate people are turning away from these costly impractical death traps.
No matter how much you subsidize it, the car is still a hunk of junk - a Hyundai with a flammable battery.
I have no problem with pure electric cars...I love the idea. Though they are still too expensive and short ranged. But hybrids are ripoffs (which is what a Volt is) and I DETEST the gov't. subsidy for ANY car (hybrid, electric, whatever).
I agree that hybrids are a mistake. Like filtered cigarettes, they just allows folks to feel less guilty about something they know is a mistake. The government subsidy for them is just ridiculous. The fully electric cars are getting pretty competitive. Tesla sells a model S now that starts at $49k that can go up to 300 miles. The model X coming out late 2013 is supposed to be priced more competitively with the commuter gas models. Even more so when you consider how much less you'll pay at the pump.
