Mods how many threads does someone need to start in 10 minutes?

Are people like this interested in respectful discussion or are they just spamming the forum? This is just a fraction of what was started in one day.

This doesn't include the nonsense from the morning. Do you think there is any serious intention to engage in meaningful respectful discussion?

 

Frankly I think there should be a 1 thread per day limit.

 

I like the idea, but it will never happen.

Success of a forum (as most people are concerned), is based on the number of page views that it gets. The more threads, the more page views.

More importantly, the more that people are encouraged to post by quantity, and not quality, the more they will check the forum.

Even though it would lead to an increase in quality, the decrease in quantity makes it uneconomical, so it won't happen.

Love the idea, though.

And what's funny, is that in spite of all those groups "dropping out," Obama is still even with Romney, and his popularity is still increasing!

So silly! Couldn't all those be squashed into ONE thread?

The forum is a joke.

 

The forum doesn't generate ad revenue or anything though.

I don't think that imposing a thread limit would necessarily reduce the number of threads created. Though yes it might mean less overall, but bigger threads.

It would mean that they wouldn't all get created by the same people, from the same biased viewpoint.

There's a small minority of people who flood the forum with threads, especially in certain sections like "Environment".

The OP sets the tone of discussion for threads, and steers the direction of the discussion, broadly speaking anyway.

So I think it's important for the forum to encourage different people to do this. Because now they're being put off by creating "duplicate" threads of spammed topics.

 

I was using economical in the technical sense. An analysis of the benefit of doing A over B.

The problem is that less threads does equal less page views. 2 threads with 50 posts each, will generate more views than 1 thread with 100 posts. It's just the dynamics of a forum.

I am in complete agreement that it would be a good idea. The problem is that it simply won't happen.

I want it just as much as you.

I'm of a conspiracy mindset. I won't deny. I look at tactics like that as shills burying a thread they don't want others to engage in, as most click on new posts and chose from the latest threads. As content can't be controlled.

 

I hadn't really thought about that, but it makes sense. I've started a couple of posts on one day but on the vast majority of days I have no need to start a post let alone 15. Really if you use discretion you should be able to express yourself with one new thread a day.

That's true. There are no membership fees and there doesn't appear to be any ad revenue. I wonder what the point of this forum is? It doesn't seem to have a stable long term membership outside of a handful of people. If you look at old threads they are full of banned posters and people who are simply no longer active.

It's a forum. I chose to discuss prior to leaving. Leaving is still an option. Sorry my observation about spam drove you to cursing.

That could be it. I've certainly seen that MO before. Trolls have been known to do some odd things on the internet.

There does come a point where words hinting at illness and obsessions become balanced suggestions and not just cheap name calling .

I have no recollection of anyone in this thread either asking for threads to be merged or objecting to Zimmerman threads being merged. Are you sure you are responding to the right thread? I'm pretty sure I have asked people on multiple occasions to decrease the number of new Zimmerman threads. Are you in possession of any written statements where I have said otherwise?

Furthermore you should actually read the posts of the concerned forum members. I believe someone suggested only allowing people to create one new thread a day. I do not believe they suggested any restrictions or prohibitions on specific topics or posters.

The title of the thread is "how many threads does someone need to start in 10 minutes." It's a simple question and it doesn't have anything to do with topic choice. Do you think creating a new thread every three minutes for almost 25 minutes in one section is reasonable?

The problem some of us have with the management of the forum is we ask basic straight forward questions and instead of common sense direct answers we get evasive hogwash. The strawman that was thrown up in response to a very straight forward post is a prime example.

What is wrong with those threads? They all address a different issue and are worthy of discussion. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean we are going to get rid of them to appease a few.

Maybe if the people who posted up crap loads of threads in one day actually put any effort into creating good talking points in the OP, then no one would care. But they don't.

 

Why don't you create some quality threads? Too busy disliking everybody else's posts?
