I'm personally of the opinion that none of the problems we are facing as a country can be properly fixed until we start electing the right people to public office.

What change do you think is more/most important?

    Voter turnout reference

Both are very important and I don't think you can argue that you are acting to increase the people's power over the government without dealing with both of these issues but I'm going to have to go with the financial reform.

The financing of the campaigns is what actually sway elections. Otherwise, there wouldn't need to be any financing anyway. A nation can survive a few years with low voter turnout without voting "wrong" but no population can have opinions stronger than those opinions that are easily induced by campaigns with money.

I think the media should be doing a better job of profiling the candidates and what they believe in.

It's more like a high school popularity contest where the media is attempting to create the narrative.

Until the politicians are not receiving money from corporations and special interests, their loyalties will be distorted by money. Corporations and special interests can give them all the information and advice they want, but campaign money should only come from voters.

As far as voter turnout, the only problem is too many ignorant people voting. I want people voting who understand the issues and are informed about the canidates positions. Voting based upon a few negative ads and stupid sound bites is a big problem. And we have far too many people voting who know nothing about what they are voting for other than they think the guy has a southern twang like they do, or they would want to have a beer with them or whatever stupid reason they use to cast their vote other than knowing what they are voting for.

The biggest problem is that people don't pay attention in the primaries except the die hards. So the die hard right wingers elect a tea party type and a die hard liberal elects a looney left type and then when the election comes, there are no moderates. I wish people would inform themselves and vote in the primaries. Then we would have a better chance of getting decent elected officials.
