NEW YORK CITY, August 21, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Christine Quinn, a Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, has said she would be open to having middle schools distribute the morning after pill to girls as young as 11 without parental notification.

Quinn made the announcement on Tuesday while receiving the endorsement of Planned Parenthood.

The city council speaker admitted the idea “can make some people uncomfortable” according to the New York Post, but providing abortifacients to preteens in public schools is “a really important option we need to make accessible.”

New York City schools distributed 12,721 doses of the morning after pill to students last year, according to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The schools administered another 2,117 shots of the long-acting contraceptive Depo-Provera. Students also received hormone injections, or were implanted with the Nuva Ring or IUDs, in addition to receiving 10,462 packets of birth control.

The 40 school “health centers” have now increased to more than 50.

Powerful contraceptive and abortifacient drugs have been found to have a variety of negative side effects. Arizona State University researchers have linked Depo-Provera to memory loss. The pill has been found to increase the risk of blood clots.

A study published in December by a University of North Carolina professor found that widespread use of “emergency contraception” had no effect on pregnancy or abortion rates but “led to a statistically significant increase in STD rates.”

What are the chances of an eleven year old getting pregnant, even being aware of Plan B, and having the $50 to pay for it?

You pro-aborts want sex ed taught at early ages. You want abortion available even without parental notification.... so why not give them an abortifacient drugs? Isn't it something that this article call them what they are... abortion pills. They even state that a recent survey said....sex ed did not stop abortion rates...it did something else...raised the levels of STD's.
Now is that a good thing?

You think babies this young should get this without permission?

And these kids could get this free....so is it a yes or no?

Ironically, at the same time there has been a push by lawmakers in New York to ban teens from being able to use tanning salons. Liberal lawmakers have already done this in Illinois.

Funny how a 17 year old girl is too young to go to a tanning salon, but an 11 year old girl is old enough to take a powerful dose of progestin to abort her zygote after it has already been conceived.

Would you rather have pregnant 11 year olds walking around?

Almost every drug manufactured to date has some sort of side effects; if people refused to take drugs based on side effects, the drug companies would go out of business and you'd have people either living in pain or dying. It's called risk management.

Is this the only study ever published? Or has the FDA published a report on this?

Perhaps if parents supervised their children properly, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Do you agree?

LifeSiteNews has some of the most sloppiest journalists. If you actually read the article, it uses "widespread access" over "widespread use." Can't they at least try to be honest?

According to the CDC, STD's are at, or near, all time lows since they began tracking them. Methinks you're assuming facts that are not only not in evidence, but in fact, are not true.

Plan B is not an abortifacient drug.

Am I surprised Lifesitenews would call them abortion pills? No, it's typical misinformation from that site.

What "survey"? Sex Ed lowers abortions rates, and it is abstinence education that raises levels of STD's.

    1. The last thing we want babies this young to get is pregnant. 2. If teens or pre-teens are delayed in getting Plan B by a parental notification requirement, it is much more likely they will get pregnant. Every second is crucial.

We don't want eleven year olds to be pregnant, do we?

*sigh* Alright Churchmouse, quit flipping out on this one. Plan B does not and will not interfere with the implantation of an already fertilized ovum. What it does do is prevent ovulation and/or sperm from inseminating an ovum. If the ovum has already been fertilized it will most likely implant anyways and boom, pregnancy.

    http://www.livescience.com/29215-how-plan-b-works.html

You can't cry over this one because in your own crazy beliefs there is no person until conception, aka, sperm meets egg. This prevents all that from taking place to begin with. Now please don't tell me you have a problem with women trying to prevent fertilization from happening in the first place.

Or possibly because she doesn't want daddy to beat the baby out of her like he did the last one. Why are pro-birthers so ignorant of the obvious?

Would you agree that these pregnancies should be reported? So the police can quietly investigate possible incest?

A need for Plan B doesn't indicate there IS a pregnancy, but the need to prevent one.

I say this as the father of a daughter...

An 11 year old's "chance for being pregnant" is something that warrants an investigation.

Yes...if we don't teach kids about sex....they won't have it. Just ask Bristol Palin.

Absolutely, but first let's try to eliminate the chance by making Plan B available to her as soon as possible.

As a father - if someone gives my daughter any meds along those lines - without keeping me in the know?

    I'll see them in court.

Then make sure there is no reason your daughter wouldn't want you to know.

Seems to me the only reason an 11 year old would need a morning after pill is if she had sex, justifying the need to prevent an 11 year old pregnancy.

Now I'm sure others will come on and rail about the morality of 11 year olds having sex and I would agree. But at that point the horse is already out of the barn.

Then Bristol Palin should be a role model for your position. Sex feels good, so do it...at any age. The only thing she did to disappoint the position....kill her child.
I guess using the pro-abort position model....we should encourage kids to do oral sex. Because as Bill Clinton said....oral sex is not really sex. As Democrats I am sure you would all agree. :)

Better to punish her by making her carry the fetus to term.
