This is a simple, straightforward poll asking Forum posters what they think should be done about Obamacare. I have tried to provide feasible resolutions.
It would appear to me that the second and fourth options are about the same. Putting everybody on medicare would, in fact, create a single-payer system.
Unfortunately what I would choose wasn't included. My solution is based upon a fundamental fact of capitalism. "The price for a necessary product/service cannot be less than the cost of providing the product/service or capitalism eventually fails." The labor of the employee is necessary to the enterprise and the health care required by the employee is necessary so that they can provide the labor. I'd make employers responsible for providing comprehensive health insurance for the employee because it is a "cost" that must be funded to prevent the failure of capitalism. That choice wasn't offers so I selected a "single-payer" system that I'd fund with a business tax.
Went with 4, but would have liked to multi choose. If we can't just #1, then #4 seems most equitable.
#1 with a caveat. U.S. Armed Forces health care and military medicine (for active duty and reserve units overseas and possibly some CONUS facilities) should not be outsourced to private enterprise. There's a good case for privatizing certain VA medical services too. All other forms of health care should be privatized and a big light shined on profiteering in the health care insurance companies, medical device manufacturing companies, medical supply companies, and pharmaceutical industries... Public universities are way out of control and top heavy with administrative pork thus adding to inflated costs to produce doctors. Primary care physicians fixing ingrown toenails and butt-doctors doing colonoscopies should not be subsidizing the $50,000 open skull brain explorations.
I voted: Make free healthcare available to everybody and let taxpayers pay the bills for everybody. I have Medicaid and I often think it would be nice if everyone had it. You just walk in and out without paying. And it works well if you have doctors nearby who take it. Otherwise, if you have to travel to the other side of the county or state to find a provider then forget it!
First a clarification -- I should have given this poll the title "YOUR vote on what to do about Obamacare!" I didn't mean it to sound as though my personal opinion has any particular significance or interest to anyone else. Unfortunately, the "edit" function doesn't let you change the title of a thread, evidently. Next, I know that I didn't present all possible solutions, but I tried to give a "broad-spectrum" of possibilities without cheerleading any of them, or slamming others. Thank you for your participation. For what it's worth, even though I'm a right-wing Conservative, I'm not thrilled with what I know so far about "Trumpocare" (or whatever the hell they're going to end up calling it). Know this: we never should have had government barging into private medical enterprise in the first damned place, but this has been a steady encroachment since hyperliberal Democrat president, Lyndon Johnson, inflicted "Medicare" and "Medicaid" on the American Public way back in the late 1960's. That was the point at which premiums first began to skyrocket and everything started going straight to hell....
Aint' that the truth... Thanks for the poll, now if we can avoid the government from giving us the shaft...
Non of the above, I say just adopt and modify it even the name Obamacare be changed. I think what's needed is to eradicate provisions that makes it unaffordable and unpalatable, quite easier than impose a new healthcare that will take years to develop and still untested if will work great.
