I'd like to initiate a thread on America's most popular sport..."Football"...not to be confused with European "Football." Specifically the fine, upstanding citizens who are paid Seven and yes...Eight figure salaries to play the sport.

Let's spotlight the most recent role model and player (now ex-player) to enter the wonderful World of the Massachusetts Judicial System, shall we.

Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriot...

Charged with first-degree murder for the death of Odin Lloyd and also the focus of an investigation into a Boston double homicide.

Granted, these are allegations...and he is not "officially" among the elite group of professional football players with felony convictions...

We'll label him as *pending* for the moment.

I hope to periodically update this thread with more stories of the Boy Scouts who put on the pads and cleats in between beating their girl friends, killing dogs, shooting themselves, shooting other people, driving while intoxicated..... and attending church services I'm sure.

    that is all...

    for now.

More Felons League shenanigans....well... offspring of the felons'.... anyway...

In January of 2011, NFL star... Lawrence Julius Taylor pleaded guilty in New York to sexual misconduct and patronizing a 16-year-old prostitute. The misdemeanor charges carried no jail time, but Taylor was sentenced to six years' probation and required to register as a sex offender.

Isn't this sweet, like father, like son...a Hallmark card moment...

Lawrence Julius Taylor Jr., the 31-year-old son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, has been arrested in Georgia on felony criminal charges of statutory rape, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy in connection with alleged sexual assaults on two juvenile females, according to police.

The arrest/booking report on the website of the Cobb County Sheriff's Office says Taylor Jr. was arrested Sunday by police in Power Springs, Ga. He was being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in Marietta, Ga.

Granted these are allegations, no conviction has occurred...but it's nice to see the father-son bonds...run deep in the Taylor family.

Still trying to figure out the purpose of this thread....Seems like someone just wants to bash people.

I saw a funny comment the other day - With so many felony convictions in the NFL recently, teams will have to go to no huddle offense to help players avoid parole violations of not consorting with known criminals lol

Didn't you know? Football evidently makes one kill, rape, and steal.

I think not! The OP deliberately singles out soccer players as not being part of this 'win at all costs and hoodwink the supporters as long as there is a fat wallet at the end of the day' syndrome.

umm, wouldn't it be easier to just watch another sport, instead of getting heartburn over something you have no control over?

I'm curious how the NFL's crime statistics compare to the general population's. I would be surprised if there was actually much variance at all.

On a more upbeat note. Johnny Jolly back after all his troubles had a solid showing last night. Will be good to have him now that his head is finally out of his behind. He always had the talent.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. Someone who obviously doesn't like football is going to waste their time complaining about the behavior of people who play football. I don't get it. This thread certainly isn't going to convert anybody into a football hater.

you mean European Soccer where the fans beat the hell out of achother, kill eachother and storm the field to kill refs and put hits out on their own players for screwing up?

yeah real (*)(*)(*)(*)ing civilized lol. and lets not forget the great part of Euro Football where they PRACTICE flopping skills to the max to try and get players on the other team kicked out for pretty much nothing. The Euro Football where players also harshly attack refs and the players like to come up from behind opposing players and play a game of knockout like a bunch of panzies or get in a cheap shot with those cleats to the face or body.

Euro Football, yes its just so classy :/

    Who said I hated football?

It's a violent game played by violent individuals....the modern day version of Roman gladiators.
People like vicarious violence...whether it's football, MMA or even auto racing...

If the race cars never crashed, viewership would diminish.

Never stated I don't watch violent or dangerous sports....

Why does the thread need a point?

It's the seemier side of professional sports...and the NFL seems to have more trouble makers than say professional basketball...yes professional baseball players take growth hormones, but off the field this does not translate to violent behavior.

I would hope the discussioin would reflect why is it the NFL has more violent felons...and reflect upon the fact that we as fans may be enabling this violence.

It's easy to reduce everything to statistics, to numbers...however to the parent's of the young man murdered...allegedly by this former NFLer...it's very real.

For supposed professionals, the off-field antics are far and above other sports in terms of violence.
Driving drunk, while still a serious offense involving poor judgment, seems tame in comparison to cold blooded murder...

I believe this to be a worthy topic of conversation....in light of the concussion related lawsuit the NFL settled recently...there is a seemier side to professional footbal...no one seems to want to discuss....fans enable the violence...which does not always end when the game ends.

It's possible the game should be banned....and the exploitation of the individual players brought to light.
They are revered...and paid extremely well while they are playing...but are just a commodity and forgotten when their talents are no longer needed. No one teaches them how to budget...how to make the money last...or how to control the violence...to separate the field...from life. The owners seem not to care as long as tv ratings are good and attendance is up.

I never said I hated the game...

Football is a mirror of the culture as a whole....the national past-time used be the less violent sport of baseball...now even women are cheering the bone crushing hits...players are paid for injury inducing hits...

This is Gladiators....violence as sport....don't kid yourself. The score is secondary to the physicality of the game...people watch for the hits....baseball is now passe' and boring in comparison...the rare runner colliding with the catcher at home plate....baseball is simply ..not violent enough to hold a fan's attention.

other than MMA hockey is a hell of a lot more violent than the NFL is if you want to talk about a "Gladiators Sport" . In football you get kicked out for fighting, in the NHL its hugely encouraged and when all is said and done you go sit in the corner for a few minutes then carry on. Hell wanna talk about a former NHL draft pick that murdered a ref then disposed of the body?

you want to talk violence? like i said there are a hell of a lot more acts of violence coming from Euro football than in the NFL. wanna speak about violence in the NFL, ok fine. But dont act like your Euro soccer is so much cleaner, google is only a click away and Euro soccer has produced some very sick outcomes both during and after games.

obviously you are a fan of Euro soccer, or think highly of it obviously not knowing what truly goes down in their games, but yet want to bash an american sport who has the same issues as any other sport. Hell we had a track star kill his model girlfriend recently, many track stars also getting caught cheating and such yet you talk about the NFL as if it were the worst league in the world lol.

Im a fan of baseball as well, but i dont pretend its so pure and no player has ever committed the same offenses as an NFL player. from cocaine junkies, assault cases, drunk driving ending in death....MLB has it as well just as any other sport.

What part of any my posts have I even discussed soccer other than bringing it up in the OP...to distinguish between American football and what the Euro's and others call "football."
