http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/n...ail&type=Newsletter&mailing=9.2.11 Newsletter Pretty sweet costume, don't care for the man bulge though. I do think that the gray looking belt thingy ought to be red not grey. But pretty cool nonetheless. DC Comics is relaunching all it's characters and Supes is getting a makeover, kind of fits the bill. My 7 year old is wanting comic books. I am suddenly thrown back to a little boy again. He wants Wolverine and Green Lantern but holy crap, comic books of today are super graphic and not for 7 year olds. What happened? Didn't comic books use to be for kids? I am scared to open a Superman comic today. Is that to graphic now too? I want to get him xmen but momma ain't gonna let, with half naked chicks all over the place, what has become of the comic book world? Dude at the comic store said to get Super Dinosaur????!!!! WTF? Might as well get him My Little Pony. What about Justice League? How did I let my son enjoy the characters I grew up with without the sexes up versions? I guess I am left with buying old school comics that cost more. The old xmen and justice league ones.
Definitely cool. But superman is probably my least favorite super hero of all time. I'd rather watch an Aquaman movie. And that's sad. As for kid safe comics I would talk with the comic guy. I know I know...no one likes talking to the comic guy. But comic fans have grown up. And comic companies are simply trying to grow with them. Spider-man is still pretty safe. I'd imagine superman is pretty safe too. My advice is to stick with super heroes that were created prior to the 80s. Wolverine is probably going to be pretty graphic for a 7 year old. Iron Man and Captain America and Green Lantern should be fine though. But even these guys have adult comics. Make sure you glance through any comic before you buy it. It's a shame we don't have a comic rating system like we do for movies and video games.
I'm not excited at all about a new Superman movie. Superman is one of my least favorite as well. I just don't like DC superheroes in general. The latest Batman movies were good though.
I did talk to the comic guy. He said Super Dinosaur.....lol. Lantern is graphic, at least the new ones. It's not the old school cartoon drawings anymore. Everything is drawn realistically now. Very detailed and graphic. Batman? He loves him to but those are almost psychotic now. The new detective comics cover scares me and I am 33....lol. Justice League is where I am leaning. It has allthe characters but doesn't seem to be as graphic in nature. And I might go old school uncanny xmen to satisfy wolverine.
I know what you mean. I'm a pretty big comic fan and I am struggling to think of anything that would be kid safe these days. But like I said Amazing Spider-man is a pretty safe series. It can occasionally contain blood. But nothing more than you see from a bad cut generally. Kids can handle that. And now is a good time to get into Ultimate Spider-man since the series is basically restarting with it's new Spider-man, Miles Morales, this week. And this new spider-man is a pretty young one. 13 years old. Your kid might relate to him better than most super-heroes. And if you really can't find anything... There is always torrenting. I can't afford comics so I buy what I can afford and download the rest. But there are PLENTY of downloadable silver age comics with all the campy stories of heroics you grew up with. You can download pretty much anything in the major stories. Any of the old superman/bat-mans/spider-mans are downloadable these days.
I did like the Green Lantern movie. But Batman is definitely their star franchise. However TheHat is right. He's not too kid safe these days. They've darkened his comics up A LOT.
I haven't read any comics in over 50 years. Never had any use for them. I was to busy trying to survive back then.
I'm really into Art. And I'm really into sci-fi stories. So comics just come as a natural source of entertainment. Some may find the hobby childish. But most don't realize how much comics have grown up in the past 2 decades.
