You may be about to get your wish. Trend projections suggest that by 2040 CA will no longer be the most populous state in the union. Of course the state is also slowly replacing tax payers with tax eaters so look for even more tax hikes.

Don’t each chain pizza (unless you are invested in them) … I get pizza at family owned joints … sure, not all of them are great but I found a few gems … and I don’t get delivery … I go in person and sit down for a cold one while it’s in the oven …

    #protip …

Healthcare and big pharma are big supporters of the party. Newsom is a pro politician. Our healthcare costs keep rising. The increase in pay will be consumed by their higher healthcare costs. The tax man gets a raise!

Im not mad and I challenge you to justify government placing their thumb on the scale when it comes to which professions receive artificial pay raises.

I’m still waiting for you to admit your previous claim was completely nonsense.

c’mon man … the rolled tacos sitting in a boat of cheese and sauce … and whoever owns the joints knows how to hire hot Chicanas …

don’t know if they are still around but Pancho’s Mexican Buffet kicked ass … it was like all you can eat for $1.79 back in the early 70s … they had a little Mexican flagpole on the table and you could raise the flag if you needed more food …

Well, you agreed with my claim.

I used EMTs, group counselors, and caregivers as examples of people who will earn less than a fast food worker while exposing themselves to more risk. My daughter worked with mentally challenged patients and got bit twice. You came back with "healthcare workers", a broad term that describes nurses to janitors. Many elderly hire caregivers that are not in the category you described.

My question to you is why is it any of the governments business which professions receive higher pay?

Should I go dig up your comments complaining about the income gap or the struggle for lower wage earners in cA?

No need, I will say it again now. Here in the Dems perti dish, those that dems claim to care the most about are worse off. CA leads the nation in poverty and the gap between the rich and poor is huge. My complaint is based on having the highest taxes combined with abundant resources and Dem control. If my high taxes created a thriving, healthy society, I would be a Democrat.

BTW, did you notice the 2 new lanes on the 405? Our tax on top of a tax on top of a tax on top of a tax finally added some lanes. Of course, poor and low income workers cannot afford the tolls.

So you feel for the poor but reject any govt attempt to improve their situation?

I reject what makes life worse for them. You already agreed with me that an hour of their time isn't worth more.

The pay raise is easily consumed by the inflation it causes and the worker is no better off. The tax man gets a raise.

    Both parties serve the rich.

That makes no sense. So without this raise inflation would take nothing? Lol

California is wacky with taxes, debt, and a government that wants to control your life. After twenty years in San Diego, my wife and I escaped California seven years ago. I was born and raised in the environs of New York City, renowned for the best pizza in the world. But I do miss my personal favorite pizza, in a class by itself, served by an outfit called "Phillipe's" in multiple locations in San Diego.

Where does it say that ?

    You understand capitalism right ?

Why does a full time schoolteacher qualify for state and federal aid ?

No doubt they have- but when the minimum rate is $20 an hour, it can make the price of the product prohibitive. If it were me I'd elect not to attempt to justify that, and encourage people to pick up.
California, as well as some others- fail to connect the costs of doing business with the price of goods and inflation. In the same way they think the pockets of the taxpayers are bottomless, they think that legislating a high wage or making some other mindless rule doesn't hurt anything or change anything. They keep doing this, corporations and wealthy people give up on them and leave the state- while it keeps getting in deeper financial and social trouble, yet they don't learn a damn thing.

It adds to inflation. Is it fair to say that companies being forced to pay employees more, pass the added expense on to the consumer?

This increase is specifically for fast food workers.

    https://www.gov.ca.gov/2023/09/28/c...nimum-wage-protections-for-fast-food-workers/

We are not discussing capitalism; we are discussing government placing their thumb on the scale to give certain workers preferential treatment.

I hated Dominos as a kid(which disappointed me at the time because Dominos had the best pizza commercials) and retained that assumption into adulthood. Sometime in the last 10 years I got a Dominos coupon in my email and decided to give them another shot. I did read that they'd changed the pizza recipe at some point, but I was happy with it and we've been returning customers ever since. Their parmesan bites are pretty good too.

They did that because people at Burger King and other FF chains, were paying “tipped wages”. That’s LESS than minimum wage. Please explain why restaurants got a special carve out to pay their employees less than minimum wage ?

This is the culmination of an effort (for now) by California to bring franchisors in restaurants under their government thumb. It started with the FAST Act and this current law is to codify a settlement with the industry to repeal the FAST act. Franchisees of 100+ location chains have to pay the $20 MW, but they avoid some potentially draconian regulations and higher wages that could have been put in place under the FAST Act authorities.
