"Even North Korea isn't this crazy" Defector Yeonmi Park on woke tyranny - YouTube Interesting the perspective this young woman who escaped North Korea has on what is happening in the United States. She expected America to be the "land of freedom", but in some ways she surprisingly discovered it was not. Some excerpts from the video: "North Korea is not even this crazy. ... Even North Korea don't do this stuff. I mean of course we will not deny that North Korea is almost like different planet. ... But when it comes to people's behavior, I saw something ... that made me very concerned. Especially when I was attending university in New York City or Columbia university. I remember growing up as a younger... the first thing my mom told me was... not to even whisper, because the birds and mice could hear me. ... And she said, most dangerous thing in my body that I had was my tongue. It wasn't just going to kill me only, if I said the wrong thing, it was going to kill the three generations of my family with me. And going to Columbia university I also learned that, in America, you can get canceled, you get censored, you get penalized, you get called Nazi and bigot, if you do not have the political correct... you know, correctness. And that really broke my heart because for me, safe place meant where people can express ideas. Especially in college campuses, where you can be stupid, and you learn, by discussing and by talking to people. But of course at Columbia, in the name of 'safe place', they tell you the things that you cannot talk about. In North Korea regime says 'We are poor because of American bastards'. Now, studying at Columbia, Africa was disordered because of white men. You know, 'The world is having all these problems because of white men'. Like every single thing the narrative was so similar that I was thinking 'Am I in North Korea's classroom, or actually in America right now?' "
I remember seeing this video a while ago. Back then, I wondered if being compared to a brutal oppressive authoritarian dictatorship made liberals ashamed or proud.
America admittedly is way more flawed than its citizens like to admit and behind the times in way too many areas for a nation that is supposed to be a world superpower. But at the very least, we don’t permanently imprison multiple generations of a family and subject them to prison torture just for a slight difference of opinion.
It makes them envious. Merrick Garland would like nothing better than to jail all of those who form the EFFECTIVE political opposition to the Biden Administration. After he's gotten the leadership, he'll go after the private citizens. We had this threat before during World War I with the Woodrow Wilson administration and an Attorney General named Palmer. He put Socialist Eugene Debs in prison from protesting our participation in World War I. Palmer even tried to run for president. Fortunately the voters told Palmer to go pound salt. Here is a classic Debs button from the period.
Keep in mind this Korean was describing being in New York City. It is very much like this in many corporate and most university settings there.
I have some recommended reading for you. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...dimensions-left-wing-authoritarianism/620185/
If you can articulate what point you think you have, go for it. Right now, all you have been doing is complaining about private property rights.
Please give an example where I have supposedly been complaining about private property rights....lol. My point is she comes from an authoritarian regime and not surprisingly she sees examples of it here. In highly liberal New York. I know you won't read it so I'll just give you the cliff note version.... Liberals pretend to be about freedom but they are really authoritarian as they come
Trump has been indicted along with a few of his accomplices. Chicken Little Trump is scare you. You're living in the past.
What example did she give that didn't involve private property rights and protected free speech? "Conservatives" pretend to be about freedom, but they are as authoritarian as they come.
Why don't you guys talk about what we should do for the country beyond electing Trump and letting him decide?
Yea, like General Michael Flynn who did nothing wrong. They bankrupted him. And Paul Manafort who went to jail for doing the same thing Hunter has been doing, without the bribes.
I want Trump out. I don't want him elected. I will vote for him if Joe Biden or Gavin Newsom are the only other choices in the general election.
. . . like standing up for our elections and against Trump -- the biggest domestic threat to our democracy?
I disagree with Yeonmi Park and her premise on "CRT" and what she thought Columbia University, her alma mater, was doing, allegedly. However, this is old, and her book is over a year old in which she makes this point. Furthermore, most North Korean Refugees who have social media presence, don't exactly agree with Yeonmi on many of her stances. And they don't engage in politics in their social media accounts. If you look at Evelyn, aka Evelyn in DC Vlog, or Cherrie Yang, you can see they are quite different in how they approach certain topics that Yeonmi does. Yeonmi does not want North and South Korea reunited at all. This is an extreme minority view within the North Korean community. Most want it, but not through the force of war. They encourage US to send leaflets, encourage defections, and call on Kim Jong Un to step down and allow democracy to develop in North Korea.
Maybe she should "try that in a small town". They'd probably tell her to go back to where she came from.
