I have an older family member who seemed to have suffered some moderate negative health effects likely caused by the vaccine, including what seems to be a permanent side effect. However, they also caught the virus (later after the vaccine's effect had worn off) and suffered from it fairly severely, including borderline delirium. So much so that many people might argue those negative effects from the vaccine might have been worth it if it had been able to prevent what was suffered from getting sick with the virus.

Apparently those "spike proteins" can really cause some problems in the body, and this can both be an issue for people if they get the vaccine, or if they get sick with the virus.

Since the vaccine never prevented transfer, it should have always been voluntary. Or at least been made voluntary sooner once it was realized that it's not going to prevent people from being contagious since I realize there were a lot of false expectations at the beginning. For most it was probably a good idea to take it. But the virus was always going to mutate and work similar to the regular flu in that vaccines are only temporary and may not even help depending on the specific strain you end up getting. I got the initial two doses, but no boosters. I've had COVID twice. First time was like a mild regular flu. Second time I didn't even know I had it because I only had a cough for a day and a half. No other symptoms. Wouldn't have even known if my wife hadn't got sick too and tested herself.

It's hard to tell for me if the vaccines made a difference for my wife and I personally. We never had COVID before being vaccinated. Odds are it did, but there's been a lot variation with how this virus affects people, vaccinated or not.

Anyway, take the vaccine if you want to, don't if you don't. It's not really a flex to announce that you won't.

I'm three and out as far as mRna vaccines go. Had two reg shots and one booster and I'm done. I remember as a kid getting the polio vaccine or the smallpox vaccine and they lasted you for a lifetime. These mRna vaccines seem to be outdated on a monthly basis.

You could say goodbye to your family early because of complications from the flu.

That's a little bit complicated. It may have reduced transfer, or it might not. It might even have resulted in an overall increase in transfer if carriers did not realize they had it due to being non-symptomatic. Unfortunately, studies to try to specifically determine this sort of thing are difficult (for a number of reasons).

I had covid once in July 2020 and haven't had it since. I tested positive 8 times over the next 18 months for antibodies when I donated my blood for antibody therapy and research. During that 18 months I had prolonged exposure to the delta variant and the omicron variant from coworkers with no ill effects. I've worked every day and eaten out almost every day since this all started and I am comfortable with my natural immunity. The only thing I do differently is avoid my parents if I am likely to have been exposed to sickness.

All the so called tests are questionable, who in t heir good mind believes it all. I've never done a test and do no other medical testing.

I think you deciding to get the covid-19 vaccine it's a personal choice. And if you made the choice to get the vaccine that's fine.

If there are side effects from it, I doubt they would be very common because if they were we would probably notice.

So I wouldn't worry about it.

Nobody should have ever thought that the vaccine reduced transmission rate that's not what vaccines do.

The way they work is either exposing to a weakened version of the virus it's vaccine for or a virus that's so similar that the same antibodies can fight it.

To put the simply it's building a fortification it's not stopping the attack.

It isn't true reduce the infection it's too give your body the ability to fight it off.

The covid vaccine at least the Pfizer in moderna version of it didn't take this approach. It created a synthetic version of the virus mRNA. To trigger the immune response and train your body how to fight it.

It really is cutting edge technology and if we ever perfected it it will be an amazing thing. Essentially it's a generic vaccine blueprint that you can drop in a synthetic component that triggers an immune response and fights whatever virus it's possible to be vaccinated eventually against HIV or herpes or even hepatitis c.

Further it could be used to quickly fabricate a vaccine against any novel virus.

I'm not against the technology I think it's fascinating.

It's just round one of trials has failed.

I would think that's even possible that if we develop this technology to the point where we can just make a vaccine for any virus at any time that it could also be used to essentially vaccinate for lack of a better word against cancerous growth.

So go to the wide world of potential here.

That being said I don't need a vaccine for covid I already had it I've got way better antibodies

You don't seem to appreciate that viruses aren't the same. If you're older, or have certain preexisting conditions, you probably benefit significantly from getting a covid vaccination.

Without medical tests, my wife would likely have died many years ago. I kind of like having her around.

Until Omicron, they prevented infection and you can't transfer what you don't have.
It was only "realized" when Omicron became dominant.
On balance, it's still "probably a good idea" because vaccinated individuals are less likely to end up in hospital and less likely to have long covid.
There are a lot of people who have had covid and don't know it.

Thank God. And no thx to alot of anti-choice authoritarians that wanted all of us to have to get one.

    https://news.northeastern.edu/2021/08/03/vaccine-mandates/

"The Northeastern survey found the highest support for vaccine mandates among residents of Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, at 81 percent each. At least 70 percent of the public in another ten states―all Democratic-leaning―approve of a universal government vaccine mandate. Support was lowest in three Republican-leaning states―North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

The overall gap between Democrats and Republicans was the widest of any group in the survey. The chasm between the two parties did not budge between spring and summer, remaining firmly locked at a 39-percentage-point difference. Democrats overwhelmingly backed requiring vaccines while Republicans were narrowly opposed.

So . . . just like the ****ing flu? Dude, some viruses change more rapidly than others and have more variants.

They never prevented infection. Even before Omicron vaccinated people would get sick. They may have chalked those up to outliers at the time, but it's still true.

    100% agree.

From what I've seen, a lot of those "anti-choice authoritarians" have moved toward their "authoritarian" positions as a reaction to anti-vaxxers spreading lies about the covid vaccines. The government could help the situation by not getting pushy and countering the lies told by hysterical anti-vaxxers.
