Oakland NAACP Calls out the Woke Left

A staggering smash to the Overtone window just occurred. The NAACP has finally noticed how the BLM and Defund the Police movements have utterly destroyed their communities and have had enough. Here is part of their scathing critique of progressive governance:

This will have a dramatic impact on the Democrat Party. The NAACP represent a core constituency who they cannot afford to alienate. Perhaps the season of mayhem may come to an end in progressive areas. I of course am ambivalent. From my perspective you get what you vote for. Oakland and other progressive cities have fully earned the death and violence their votes ushered in.

 

If anyone tries to stop crime, arrest the criminals and put them in jail, then this same group will cry about system racism and blacks being targeted by the bigoted cops. This is a no-win scenario for the left, they’ll be damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

 

Good people are starting to speak up. Many of these good people are registered democrat voters. They are speaking with republicans and rejecting the radical liberal policies of the democrats. The liberal democrat leaders may or may not get the message. Castro never admitted he made his island so poor. At one time Cuba had the largest night club in the world. Lots of tourist spending the Yankee dollar. Some USA companies in Cuba. Castro ruined the country. People started risking their lives to leave Cuba -- similar to California where liberal policies are causing people to leave because liberal policies are destroying that great state. Liberals have no understanding of history.

 

What next? Wanting to defend themselves with firearms? Heresy!

The last Republican Mayor in Oakland left office in 1977.

 

And it's been downhill ever since. Now the liberals need to wake up.

I don't think so. I think they are having too many of their donors bankrupted by this approach to crime. It is not lost on them at long last that a black man is five times more likely to be murdered and his killer is also far more likely to kill again and to be black.

this happened down the road. A woman went grocery shopping, a guy spits in her face and threatens to rape her. She said she never feels safe and it looks like she’s heading towards having a breakdown.

Nope.

It's clear evidence (not just a sign) of how seriously these police forces lost the trust of the people.

The "defund the police" movement came DIRECTLY due to police behavior. There was NO other reason.

 

"Woke" is in reference to finally noticing that there is a problem.

In this case, the problem was the police. And, that problem went on for a long time.

That doesn't mean defunding the police is a solution.

But, there are plenty of police forces where the police leadership (at the very least) needs to be gone.

Rebuilding the damage they did to the trust of the population will take time and a whole lot of effort.

This has ALWAYS been true.

The reaction against the police has centered on the fact that the police could not possibly be trusted.

If citizens don't dare to call them, they are useless. AND lethal.

 

Well based on the actions of BLM, that would be create a problem that barely exists destroy billions in private property most of it belonging to the people you are suppose to be helping pocket millions in donations and leave the people you claimed to be helping in far worse circumstances than before you started to help

 

You realize that makes no damn sense at all. If they don't trust the cops why are they begging for more law enforcement.

 

The NAACP is not a "narrow partisan group of extremists".

And, in many areas, those we think of as minorities ARE the America People.

You already got told that the NAACP recognizes that every community needs a fully functioning, legal, police force - which is NOT WHAT THEY ARE GETTING.

You're last paragraph may be true. But, the catch is that if the police department can not be trusted by the people they police, then they will fail.

And, if they shoot or strangle a few with no justification, that ends the discussion until that police force not longer exists.

Also, death count is NOT the only issue here. Police will lose trust if they treat the population in the manner that racist bigots treat black people.

 

They are calling for more policing, which is step with the great majority of the American People. Do try to keep up.

 

Let's take this issue seriously.

 

I did that was what BLM actually did. Taking BLM seriously would actually require that thugs who burnt down billions of dollars of property owned by black small business folk do serious jail time.

What you are missing is that they don't want the kind of police they have faced in too many locations in the past.

I've LONG stated on these boards that there are no places where the people don't want policing. They just don't want lethal racist bigots that can not be trusted.
