Oral Sex is Leading Cause of Increasing U.S. Cancer Rates, Compared to Tobacco Use in Other Nations

"Oral sex now leads the cause of oral cancer in America, according to a study.

Oral sex could be hazardous to your health. So say researchers who note that oral cancer stemming from the human papilloma virus is more common in the U.S. than oral cancer caused by abusing tobacco.

Researchers found a 225% increase in oral cancer cases in the U.S. from 1974 to 2007, mainly among white men, said Maura Gillison, a cancer researcher at Ohio State University.

The more oral-sex partners a man had, the greater his cancer risk, Gillison told a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Tobacco use remains the leading cause of oral cancer in the rest of the world.

There as many as 150 different types of human papilloma viruses, and about 40 of those can be sexually transmitted, according to the National Cancer Institute.

HPV infections often go undetected and are the main cause of cervical cancer in women.

Scientists are examining whether Gardasil and Cervarix, the HPV vaccines approved to prevent genital warts and cervical cancer, could have a significant impact on oral cancer.

In the meantime, researchers are urging doctors and educators to start talking to teens in particular about the risks of oral sex."

    ......

We all understand our main objections to abstinence, so the next best antidote for passing on the papilloma virus to others would be to have safe sex. But how safe is safe sex? Why ask me? I didn't write this article....

Anyways, the safest way to have sex is to have the male wrap their sexual organs in plastic, thereby enclosing the penis. The use of two (2) condoms instead of one is also a great idea, along with a signed affidavit of intent in case one partner unknowingly has the virus. When the male dons the 2 condoms over the plastic covering, they are now ready for safe sex....well, at least the female is.

All you horny pubescent males need to restrict your activities to a plastic- wrapped penis when approaching those horny nymphettes, and all you teen virgins need to stop oral sexing in order to save your virginity. Like, is this a contest between remaining chaste, papiloma virus, and abstinence, or what? Like, I say, NO...it should not be a contest at all, but one of a concept of no exchange of body fluids whatsoever.

This has been one of many lectures concerning the scariness of unprotected sex in the year 2011.

Meanwhile religious zealots oppose mandatory vaccination against the virus. Never mind that this will kill people. We must uphold our principles!

Why aren't we giving gardasil to guys now? It doesn't make any sense why we haven't.

    Religious zealots?

You are talking about People's bodies! You can't force anyone to have a medical procedure done against their will.

You are basically saying that when it comes to public health, you don't have a choice what you do with your body!

If religion involved the threat to a life because of witholding treatment to save a life it is a decision by a court in the USA. And th Law can be imposed.

I'm not so sure about those religious countries where there are no laws and just religion rules.

Except this isn't just a matter of individual liberty, it's a public health risk.

Why can't people just use protection? Or find some other way of pleasuring themselves?

That's an oversimplification. Life is full of risks and some are worth taking. If we are too afraid of all sorts of infections (and believe me, the list of possible infections is incredibly long), we would have to avoid contact and proximity to other humans and animals whenever possible.

For example, I am a carrier of the herpes simplex virus. Don't worry, it can't be transmitted over the Internet. The infection is symptom free right now, but it might become visible herpes labialis again at any time. I don't know exactly when and how I became infected, but it surely was a long time ago.

Would it have been avoidable? Since it's such a widespread virus, I would have had to avoid most contact with others (especially kissing) to prevent an infection with this tenacious virus. Growing up in a country where cheek kissing is customary among friends and a majority of the population is infected, that's just not realistic. Given the choice between social suicide and an infection with mild symptoms, I unwittingly chose infection.

    What would you do?

    1) Well you can both get checked up before sexual activities. It's free in most cases and takes just a few days.
    2) Plus, it's always good to check the area of contact as well. No sex in the dark on the first date.
    3) Last step is to date or fling with someone in the lower risk catagory to reduce your odds of transmission. So no taking sluts home from the bar. Ofcourse, I ruined my opportunity to have sex with a stranger by asking for us to get checked up first. That tends to make a girl feel sluty even though it's the responsible thing to do. So #1 is optional.

then you haven't been paying attention..almost .all the opposition to HPV vaccination has been morally/religious based....

in my city the public school board offered vaccination to all young girls before they become sexually active, this is no different than any other vaccination for communicable diseases...my girls have been vaccinated for polio, rubella, diphtheria a number of other diseases and now HPV, now the same vaccination program is being considered for young boys as well...the only schools not talking part are the religious ones as they claim it encourages sex...a completely deluded position as if religious oriented kids don't have sex...
